Dr. Tom Plaut's deceptively modest "One Minute Asthma" has an easy to read format that took the mystery out of asthma for me. This little book provides clear, medically-sound instructions for how to control the disease instead of letting it control you. Teens with asthma and parents of children who have it would undoubtedly find "One Minute Asthma" as useful as this adult did, and just as reassuring.

For over 10 years, we have been using the "One Minute Asthma book" for clients of our asthma program to review. The book explains in easy terms "what is Asthma" and other important information such as triggers that can cause or exacerbate asthma, how to avoid triggers, the different kinds of medication and more importantly, how you can prevent an asthma attack. The book is so complete that also provides a few stories of people dealing with the disease. Many of our patients relate to some of the stories and it is really a plus. In summary, the cost of the book is nothing compare to the value of the information provided. The book comes in English or Spanish. As a Coordinator of an asthma program, i belive that every person who suffers from asthma could benefit with the information provided on this book. The book is based on the most recent guidelines and it's often up-dated by the publisher.

The One Minute Asthma book provides all the necessary components to learn how to manage asthma. It covers information about medicines, peak flows, peak flow diaries and triggers. It also covers the different ways that asthma medicines are given. There are many doctors who do not know the correct way that asthma devices should be used. We provide this book to patients admitted to hospital and patients who visit the emergency rooms when there asthma is out of control. Its easy quick and easy to read. For the professional it is a great tool that is updated with the stepwise approach to asthma treatment using the NAEPP 2007 Guidelines.

Our North Country Asthma Coalition covers northeastern NY and has worked with Dr. Plaut and used his resources for years! My personal favorite (my father has asthma, I have asthma, and my daughter has asthma)is his One Minute Asthma booklet. It is clear, concise, and outlines everything you need to know about asthma. I much prefer the handy little booklet to a hard cover book or a bunch of fliers. Our coalition works with physician practices, public health offices,and school districts and they all love this handy, dandy educational tool! I just pulled out my current "One Minute Asthma" (eighth edition) to help a coworker get a handle on a health problem. Over the past ten years plus, Dr. Plaut's "little book" is the one I use first to encourage people to take control of their asthma, and asthma-related problems. I showed the person four simple pages on "Your Immune System" through "Sinus Trouble" and we had a great discussion about a few of the tips that may dramatically improve her life. Dr. Plaut's four clear and concise pages gave so much information!!

I have used Dr. Plaut's books for many years now ... Discovering his asthma management method was the beginning of getting my life back!! Anyone looking to understand asthma and to improve their own success managing it should definitely read this book, discuss it with their own doctor, craft a management plan together, and get back out there to enjoy life!

We use this booklet in some of our community and school-based asthma management programs. It's a great resource and is easy to read for families and older children. As a certified asthma educator this is a book I can recommend.

This is the best single book on asthma treatment for patients, their families and professionals. The 8th edition is up to date and consistent with NHLBI guidelines for the management of asthma.
Dr. Plaut has created a template for patients to work effectively with their health care providers. He provides a positive and empowering approach that is responsible and effective. Indeed, this book is "what you need to know."

People with asthma need to know about the disease so that they can learn how to manage it, and how to live normal lives. This book is the best one available for patients today. It is well-written, comprehensive, and contains a great deal of information presented in easy-to-understand, non-technical language.

Dr Plaut has released the 8th edition of his book. While the earlier editions are still useful (much of their information has not gone out of date), this new edition reflects the current treatment guidelines and offers numerous tips to help patients get control of their asthma.

Highly recommended. If you have asthma, this is the one book you should have. If you are a health care professional, this is the one book you should be handing out to your asthma patients as required reading!

Our 2 year old child was struggling with Asthma. We learned more from this guide than from our doctor, emergency room, and specialist visits. We followed all the advice and our kid is 5 now and does not take any medications. Definitely get this resource.
