If you want to learn about meditation, read this book!,
By A Customer
This review is from: The One-Minute Meditator: Relieving Stress and Finding Meaning in Everyday Life (Paperback)
I have meditated daily for the last 3 years and have found this book very helpful. I had let my meditations become more "routine" than "mindful". The very easy excercises through out the book helped me find my center again.I would recommend this book to anyone at any level . . . beginner to experienced!

"How To Meditate" without the mumbo jumbo,
By A Customer
This review is from: The One-Minute Meditator: Relieving Stress and Finding Meaning in Everyday Life (Paperback)
A year after diagnosis with high blood pressure, I've been on diets, medication, and a steady dose of advice from my family. My doctor suggested I meditate to reduce stress, but everything I read wanted to change my religion. This book is terrific. A quick read, it is a practical, hands on, step-by-step approach to meditation. And it really works. Finally I understand what all the shooting was about.

Ommmm along for peace of mind,
By A Customer
This review is from: The One-Minute Meditator: Relieving Stress and Finding Meaning in Everyday Life (Paperback)
10/18/2001 - Ommmmm along for peace of mind By Deirdre Donahue, USA TODAY This autumn, our national psyche's Teflon shield has been severely scratched by terrorist attacks and anthrax headlines. We cannot change reality, so people need to find healthful ways to cope. For centuries, people around the world have found an inner calm through meditation. It seems easy. Just sit or lie down, close your eyes and clear your mind. Alas, taming those wild monkeys that jump around your mental tree is very difficult. This book and audio presentation explores the practice of meditation: * The One-Minute Meditator by David Nichol, M.D., and Bill Birchard (Perseus Press, and Audio Renaissance, 3 hours, abridged). Read by Nichol, the tape is fervent in describing the way training one's mind can decrease stress.

A Practical Guide,
By
This review is from: The One-Minute Meditator: Relieving Stress and Finding Meaning in Everyday Life (Paperback)
I would like to recommend this book as a practical guide to create an awareness of how we live our lives moment to moment... one minute to the next minute. The simplicity of these meditations will show you how to increase this consciousness in a way that is easy for anyone to implement into a hectic daily schedule. This book is especially geared towards an initiation into the practice of meditation, though even more experienced meditators can benefit from it. I found several "ah ha!" moments myself in reading the information that focuses on living consciously one moment to the next. This is done by shifting from the usual, often unconscious, one minute escapes that we find ourselves drawn towards and into creating intentional one minute meditation segments of time. Achieving relaxed focus through breathwork and mindfulness are discussed, as are the health benefits of a meditation practice. This book is also available as an easy to listen to audiotape read by one of the authors, David Nichol.

Supplier was great, but, this book is very basic. Anyone really looking for ways to slow down during the day and meditate for a few minutes should look somewhere else.

The One-Minute Meditator:Releiving Stress and Finding Meaning in Everyday Life,
This review is from: The One-Minute Meditator : Releiving Stress and Finding Meaning in Everyday Life (Audio Cassette)
I am terribly dissapionted! I had purchased a new tape recorder to listen to this audio-tape which I had just purchased...I had barely gone through the second side when the tape had got tangled in the tape heads...I attempted to untangle the tape...in doing so the tape heads got damaged and the tape had snapped. I am sad and angry feeling that there is no recourse for me or hope to get another tape without having to pay again...that is not fair! Could you please let me know if there is something that can be done? I would appreciate your response to this matter. Thank you sincerely, Martica Mary Kreze

Reads too much like a text book,

This review is from: The One-Minute Meditator: Relieving Stress and Finding Meaning in Everyday Life (Paperback)
It contained a lot of information on what meditation can do for you and research to back this up and very little on actually learning the practice of meditation. I did not find it at all helpful.
I would recommend instead "8 Minute Meditation" by Victor Davich. It is fun to read, very thorough in its explanations and guides you step-by-step through learning to meditate. I read it many months ago and because of "8 Minute Meditation" I am still meditating on a daily basis. |
