4.0 out of 5 stars A pretty good Debut
I just bought this today on a whim. Mostly because they are tourring with A Perfect Circle. It is a very good album that has a variaty of musical styles. It starts with a good classic semi-industrial headbanger then a soft ballad, this pattern continues for a while ( Hard, Soft, Hard, Soft, .ect..) And then turns into an album of soft/experimental songs. If you only...

3.0 out of 5 stars Another Angry Rock Band
I've had hesitations about Astralwerks in the past couple of months based on the material they seem to be putting out lately (King Biscuit Time, Sunna, Phoenix, Graham Coxon, etc...). This album doesn't seem to fit with their usual roster. The album's not bad if you are a fan of Eve 6, Creed, or any other alternative band out there. In fact, for that population,...

If you only hear the commercial song "Power Struggle" Don't expect the whole album to be like it. The point is you have to read into this album, it is very powerfull with some great lyrics, but if you just want fast handbanging industrial, there are only a couple songs. The best tracks are Too Much, I'm Not Trading, and their single Power Struggle. ( check out the creepy video for that...) This is a good debut, and this band has some great talent and could be five stars on the next release. If you liked Perfect Circle's Mer De Noms, you should like this.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not a Bad First Album..., August 22, 2000

I have to admit, the only reason that I bought this CD was because I had tickets to see A Perfect Circle, and this band was the opening act. I had never heard of these guys (obviously, they are a new band), and so, I wanted to hear what I would be seeing at the show. And, happily, I like what I heard. If you are a fan of heavy music, then this may not be for you. This is a surprisingly mellow disc, but there are a few heavier tracks. I especially enjoy the song "Power Struggle," which also appears on the "Hollow Man" soundtrack, and the first song on the disc, "I'm Not Trading" has quickly become a favorite of mine. And after seeing these guys perform live, I like them all the more. They sounded great and put on a good show. Also, they seem to really be very appreciative of the support that they are getting from the Tool/A Perfect Circle fans. I like them a lot, and think that they are a band to watch in the future.

4.0 out of 5 stars Most songs are quite unlike Power Stuggle, but still good, May 23, 2001

The first Sunna song I heard was Power Struggle, which is probably the "heaviest" track on the album. I immediately liked it a lot. Then I saw the vid for I'm Not Trading, which I also liked quite a lot. After downloading the rest of the album as mp3's I discovered that most of the other songs are quite different, more often with acoustic than electric guitars, however they are quite good! So I decided to buy the album, and as I already knew what the album soundend like I wasn't disappointed, actually after listening to it over a propper stereo instead of the computer sound system I've grown to like it even more. I just wished they had put a few more Power Struggle type songs on it.

This album is so cool! This band has created very dark tunes that make you smile because it's a cool evil. They get into your head and don't come out. I love this band. Some of the song are danceable, and they are all great songs to exercise to. They just pump you up and get you moving. The singer has such an intense voice. He really just makes you feel every word he says. It's very sexy. I highly reccommend getting this album if you like energetic, deep music. You won't be disappointed.

One Minute Science induces all sorts of moods in the listener, but for me, it's weird and it makes me feel funny. To basically sum up Sunna in a nutshell, it's what you get if industrial, grunge alternative, rock, and pop collided in a 4 way head-on wreck. It's ironic too, because the day I purchased this CD I was looking for something different, something that would defy my norms. My first choices were picking up Ministry - `Psalms 29' (I believe that's the name) or Brittany Spears - `Oops I did it Again'.(just kidding) Anyway, on the way to the checkout counter I see `One Minute Science' and then the Sunna name that I had heard before from my brother. He said that they had been opening up for A Perfect Circle, and one of their songs had been featured on the Hollow Man soundtrack. I knew they had a song on that soundtrack, but paid no attention to anything involving that movie since Hollow Man was a mockery. A horrible piece of work for such a talented actor and musician in Kevin Bacon (listen to the Bacon Bro's CD). For some reason though, I decided to get Sunna instead of Ministry. I put the CD in my car's player and instead of rocking out, banging my head, and going nuts like usual, I just sat there. This album made me think, so much to the point where I nearly got into a wreck. The music isn't bad, it's actually quite amazing. It hasn't left ANY of my CD players yet. To put it in layman's terms, if you want a utopia of variety, One Minute Silence is surely the thing for you. Normally I point out the pros and then the cons of an album when I write reviews, but there aren't any cons with this one. Aside from Jon Harris's voice and the rest of band's instrumental talent, one minute the genre's hardcore industrial, and the next minute it's acoustic melody all while topping it off with screaming and whaling of Slipknot. The tunes `I'm Not Trading,' `Preoccupation,' `Power Struggle,' and `OD' stand out the most, and not only is the music well constructed, the lyrics aren't easily overlooked either. While strange most of the time, it's still not hard to notice Jon Harris's impressive style that bleeds the sort of intensity that you get submersed and lost within. To break it down, One Minute Science is defiantly not for everyone. Many mainstream listeners won't be able to stomach it, and an eye could be gambled that most of the non-commercial extremists out there will absolutely hate it. Nevertheless, if you're looking for something new, interesting, and creative, `One Minute Science' by Sunna is a MUST have and will leave you thirsting for more.

4.0 out of 5 stars This is great!!!, August 30, 2000

Okay, I'll admit it, I only bought this album just a few days ago, and already I'm pretty hooked to it. I work at a record store, and one day, one of my managers came to me enthusiastically and said, "Hey Miles, I think you'll like this one." After giving it a listen, I've immediately fallen in love with this album (the reason for 4 stars because I'm only so new to this album).

I've been a big fan of Massive Attack and the whole trip-hop/hip-hop crowd, like Portishead and Tricky, for years and years, and to hear that a new person has come out of that group and label made me immediately interested. But to know that he has a completely different sound than them makes him very unique. The fact that he has a Nine Inch Nails-esque sound doesn't bother me either, since NIN is one of my favorite bands, and to add that to Nirvana-styled vocals and Ben Harper hooks makes him rise further. By the end of this album, Harris and team have deffinitly made a sound of their own. So far, the songs that have stood out in my mind have been "Power Struggle," "Insanity Pulse," "OD," "One Conditioning," and the slow ballad of "7%"--a song I haven't been able to get out of my head for about a week now. These songs are all rich in styling, with the beat loops set under the crunch of tortured guitars and a voice that seems to have seen everything yet feels incomplete still. Most importantly are the lyrics, which shows that Harris, like Tricky, Gibbons, Reznor, Chuck D, and Bono before him, is extremely deep when it comes to subjects of the self, often exploring sides of the human animal that some people don't want to explore.

Yet Sunna in the end prevails and gives us a feeling of what life is like within Jon Harris' mind. This is truely music and art at its best.

Excellent stuff!

5.0 out of 5 stars Geez...I need more than 5 stars for this thing..., April 26, 2001

This review is from: One Minute Science (Audio CD)
I had the opportunity to see Sunna open for A Perfect Circle last September and MISSED it because we were late to the show. BIG bummer for me. This album is one of those rare beauties that can be played all the way through, no skipping tracks. Sometimes you keep hitting repeat because a track is so good. I saw the video for I'm Not Trading and was hooked. Downloaded some other songs to see if the band was worth any further investigation. Every song I heard was great. Bought the album the next day, and it hasn't left my cd player since. Jon Harris has such a dynamic voice, screaming "I don't like you and I never will" one minute, then "I drank a drop too much" with a drone the next, to a lovely acoustic number in "7%". EVERY song on this album is fantastic. Each brings its own element to the table. This album might be a bit too intelligent for the masses. I see a bad review every once in awhile, and I think "This person just doesn't get it." People seem to want an entire album that sounds the same. Not here. Don't buy this album expecting every song to sound like "Power Struggle". It's so much deeper than that, and so much better for it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Check this one out..., August 26, 2000
This review is from: One Minute Science (Audio CD)
The electronic crunch of Nine Inch Nails, tossed in with the toned down vocals of Tool gives you this great new band called Sunna. Most people have seen this band live with A Perfect Circle this summer, and let me tell you, they are one of the best new bands of the year, and this CD proves that they have a bright future. Songs like Power Struggle are typical 90's metal anthems. Preoccupation is a on a lighter note, noticably more toned down than the rest of this disc. Insanity Pulse is probably the best song on here and sounds an AWFUL lot like Nine Inch Nails. If you like this band, I highly suggest you check out Nine Inch Nails, Taproot, Tool and A Perfect Circle.

5.0 out of 5 stars "Power Struggle" alone makes the album worth it, May 18, 2006
This review is from: One Minute Science (Audio CD)
Don't pay attention to the reviewers who pannned this album.

"Power Struggle" alone makes the album a good purchase. Granted, it is a song which would fall into the "hard rock" category, so those people who prefer , say, the Osmond Brothers or the Jackson Five ( like some of the reviewers on this page, it would seem) may not find it their cup of tea.

The rest of us will like it , however.
