There's a lot of great advice on what wonderful things you can say to kids when you're pressed for time or One Minute Magic Moments as he calls it. I would mention some things that particularly struck me. For example, "Because I love you, I will always help you."

I also like the affirmation you can teach your kids: "I am important. I matter. I can learn and grow. I can be kind to others. I can succeed."
Love the idea of telling your daughter "how about putting your hair clip in a different way today?"
Completely agree that it's not enough to tell your children things, you must get involved in their lives as well, and have an interest in what they're doing.

I also agree with the dangerous "grenades" he mentions, such as telling your kids "You can't do anything right" or "Why can't you be more like Tommy" or "You are so dumb." And as the book mentions, we get angry sometimes on the same things that we sometimes laud them for because its our mood and stress that causes us to react that way rather than the kid most times.

I also loved the idea about getting them involved in a self-defense sport and ways like using Jackie Chan or Rocky like movies to develop their interests. Learning self-defense is vital to overcoming bullies. Bullies don't care about stupid movies about bullying, but they will not bother those that can and do defend themselves when attacked."

Love the true story of the brilliant scientist who realized that his daughter won't do well in academia and supported her dream of becoming a chef. Sometimes we forget that our children are not extensions of ourselves, like father isn't always like son or daughter. We can say no, but we must be realistic.

Many dads get a nagging feeling from time to time that they are too busy to be able to connect effectively with their kids - ironically they are also too busy to read the usual long self-help books that might be able to help them in this regard. The thing that I liked is it re-referability as it is so concise.

The one minute magics as they are called here certainly are great insights and lets face it, we have just lost the juice out of our parenting lives due to the go go go attitude. Lovely and inspiring.

There are thousands and thousands of books on self-improvement but nothing is more important than "child improvement" -- by that I mean doing everything possible as a Dad to insure that a child, upon entering adulthood, can effectively meet life's challenges, is resilient in recovering from difficulties, knows the power of a positive outlook on life, lives a happy fulfilling life and contributes to the well being of others around him.

Nothing is more important for our nation, for the world and for us living in it than the effective development of our kids...and nothing can ever be more gratifying than seeing our children reach and achieve their dreams of success, however they define it.

I like this book because, like a few others, it addresses the important topic of child rearing from the perspective of a Dad. It was easy to read and digest. I liked the 99 ideas because it provides powerful ideas in easy to digest points. Each idea seemed relevant and many were extremely helpful.

I particularly enjoyed the author's introduction. It was clear to me that he is a caring Dad that wants to make a difference in the world. I really enjoyed reading this book and think I will refer to it often.

I was very interested in this book when I got it. I am a work from home person and Dad so I spend a lot more time with my kids than most get a chance to, but I too have deadlines as well as some occassional travelling to do.
Three years ago, on fathers day, my kid said something that made me re-think my purpose of life and commitment as father. I introspected a lot. I made a decision I was going to be a terrific father. I have been researching, tweaking, making adjustments, reading and learning ever since. This book has helped me in that category.

Lets face it, there are really tough days when we only have few minutes to have a meaningful interaction with our kids.

The reason this book fits for me is it enhances our relationships with our kids and takes it to the next level. If all we did was spend one-minute a day with our kids, than our kids might not end up that great- a reason I was really scpetical about the title and I do not think you can be a super dad in one minute a day.

However, this book doesmanage to address and suggest essential conversations that as fathers we need to have with our kids. It stokes the internal wheels in our heads to think about having intimate and authentic relationships with our kids. Not a Bible on fathering but certainly a great handbook!

Dr Jindal has written this concise ready-reckoner for Dads that is not only imbued with great feeling, but also demonstrates his commitment to a healthy, happy, contented and cohesive family unit. We might well achieve all the materialistic "success" in this world; but what counts is how positively or negatively we as parents are perceived by our children.

Here is a gem of a book that is well researched and contains simple yet profound bite-sized tips on how to try and do justice to the amazing role of a Dad, a responsibility that is not to be taken lightly.

The best parts of this book are not just the one minute magic moments, but also the one minute grenades that can irreparably impact and even destroy the positive enthusiasm, boundless energy and innocent, carefree inquisitiveness of our children, converting them into sullen misfits capable of unleashing havoc in our already troubled society.

This book helps Dads to navigate with care through their myriad responsibilities, and this complex task appears easy and fun through the sensitive presentation of the contents.
