5.0 out of 5 stars OCS does it again!, October 6, 1999
By A Customer
The Scene's sound continues to evolve. This album is definitely more singer Simon Fowler's album than the past two. Much simpler folk oriented songs get down to the emotion and lyrics. Steve Cradock's guitar focuses more on atmosphere and there is a decided lack of solos (though his fills are perfect as always). His piano and organ take an increased role in many songs. Overall, this is OCS's strongest, most consistent writing to date. Fans looking for another Riverboat Song or Hundred Mile High City may be disappointed, but fans of their more subtle material such as their b-sides will be blown away. It's a real shame it's only available as an import in the States.

Well, howw many times , Ocs from what seems nowhere pluck out one of the best albums of this year . The only reason this hasn't sold like hot cakes is because they know who there real fans are , and they know they'll buy it , and it's been worth the wait if only to hear " I am the news " or " the waves " thankyou OCS for bringing true music back on the shelves,

5.0 out of 5 stars Don't follow rules... Make your own!, April 12, 2000

The album is balanced, inspired and thought provoking. The waves (Penultimate track)is possibly the best song EVER, by any artist, living or dead, of this earth or otherwise. Buy today, enjoy for all eternity.

5.0 out of 5 stars Never a letdown, February 8, 2006

I own most of the OCS catalogue, and when any of the recordings are in the player, it plays and plays. The sound they create always pleasant, with solid musicianship, solid singing, just enough variety, all so well done. And here, for me, the words that stand out in "Profit for Peace", and "I Won't Get Grazed".
They should be huge.

4.0 out of 5 stars Quiet Scene!, September 1, 2005
This review is from: One from the Modern (Audio CD)
This 4th Ocean Colour Scene album is their most quiet so far. There are a couple of upbeat cathy tunes like "Profit in Peace", but most of it is rather melancholy. Even the catchy "So Low" has a sad mood to it.

There are some beautiful ballads like "No One at All" and "Families", but it seems the best songs are placed in the first half of the album, and you may easily lose interest underways.

It`s not a bad album, but you cannot help feeling that it lacks some energy and optimism.

For me "Marching Already" is by far their strongest album.

My favorites are "So Low", "No One At All", "Profit in Peace", "Soul Driver" and "Families".

4.0 out of 5 stars please discover this band, October 11, 2007
This review is from: One from the Modern (Audio CD)
The thing with Ocean Colour Scene is that they are criminally overlooked in areas other than overseas. They have amassed a great backlog of intelligent , good old rock and roll. This album is as good as any place for someone unfamiliar to start. If you like it , you'll find yourself buying everything else they've done.
