Saddly Goodie Mob's sound has been reduced to just 'another' South-side Group on a lot of their trax. Cee-Lo is definately missed on this project. Saddly Goodie Mob's sound has been reduced to just 'another' South-side Group on a lot of their trax. Cee-Lo is definately missed on this project. His art and soulful prescence could have churned out a lot of Hits on this Cd. Minus Cee-Lo, there seems to be a lack of Direction in the group. As far as I'm concerned, there is no bright future for Goodie Mob without Cee-Lo. They have however, managed to somewhat substitute the soul brother's talent by featuring one or two other people which resulted in the outcome of a couple of decent songs but still did not come near to what a classic Goodie song would be because of the abscence of Mr. Green.
God I Wanna Live ,Goodiadvice,Ain't Nothing for Us and Play Your Flutes def stand out and are worth listenning to.
This album is nice but could have been a Classic.

As a Goodie Mob Fan, I hope they squash all their beef and come back together to produce thought-provoking positive raps with neck breaking tendencies.. Go out and Cop this Cd

Peace...

After the backlash the group received from "World Party", Goodie Mob returns closer to form with this release. The powerful "God I Wanna Live" has Soul Food written all over it. The two thing that brought this album down was when the group ventures outside of their comfort zone (namely "In da Streets", "Grindin", & about 2 or 3 others) and the obvious void left by Mr. Ceelo Green. But if you compare this album to a lot of garbage that's out now, you can see the goodness (no pun intended) of the album. Nowadays, any album with more than 5 tolerable songs is considered a good album. Anyway, this is a pretty good album by my standards. Even without Ceelo, it could have been 4.5 stars by excluded the forementioned tracks and adding 4 Organized Noize tracks to replace them. Still worth listening to though.

3.0 out of 5 stars Those were the days..., November 5, 2004
This review is from: One Monkey Don't Stop No Show (Audio CD)
After Cee-Lo left the infamous Goodie MoB following the extremely too mainstream album World Party and issued a couple of decent solo joints of his own, people thought it was the end of the crew. But still came their latest album, One Monkey Don't Stop No Show. The title alone got people talking, and I think my favorite website said it best: "while the group is rumored to still be on good terms with Cee-Lo, it's pretty hard not to read something into the title of the LP."

But after hearing "Play Your Flutes", a lot of fans decided that T-Mo, Big Gipp and Khujo could do fine on their own (even though that song has helping hands from Kurupt and Sleepy Brown). The thing is, though, that's the last song on the album, and it's not exactly easy to get to that point. A lot of these songs really aren't that great. There are a lot of been-there-done-that songs like "God I Wanna Live", "Shawty Wanna Be a Gangsta" and "Dead Homies" (and why is that song so peppy-sounding?). And "High & Low" is sort of risqué.

There are also some weird songs, including the crazy "Big City" and the generic "Goodiadvice". If you think the latter has an unimaginative title, you're right, but there's more. "One Monkey" doesn't really go anywhere, yet it still manages to contain some of the wackest lyrics I've heard all year. On second thought, maybe I should say that about "123 Goodie". Check the chorus: "One Goodie, two Goodie, three Goodie, four/Five Goodie, six Goodie, seven Goodie, more." And for some reason, in the MIDDLE of the album you'll find a track called "We Back", but the song is so dull that it'll make you say, "So?"

Everything else is tolerable, except for the fact that in a few songs the guys actually let themselves get outshined by Witchdoctor. And I'm also not sure when Big Gipp and Khujo started sounding exactly alike. Despite its shortcomings, this is still better than World Party, but it still doesn't come remotely close to Soul Food or Still Standing. You're probably better off picking up either of Cee-Lo's albums instead. One Monkey Don't Stop No Show? Wanna bet?

3.0 out of 5 stars The show must go on..., February 14, 2008
This review is from: One Monkey Don't Stop No Show (Audio CD)
Goodie Mob was the best thing to come out of Atlanta and the best group to come out of the south period. Soul Food is a classic album that gave me genuine respect for a group that refused to go out like the rest of these other groups. Still Standing was not only a classic but it topped Soul Food and showed you they were here to stay. World Party was straight up garbage but I dont blame them for that mainstream monstrosity, I blame their record label and L.A. Greed. This album is better than World Party but in comparison to Soul Food and Still Standing it cant stand up. There are highlight of this album: Synopsis with Big Rube is great. God I Wanna Live, the cheery sounding Dead Homies, High And Low, What You See and Play Your Flutes feat Kurupt and Sleepy Brown are vintage Goodie Mob tracks. Goodieadvice and Shawty Wanna Be A Gangsta are honorable mentions. There are songs that kill this album's potential to be great. Grindin feat Bone Crusher, In Da Streets, Big City and We Back are straight garbage. One Monkey has a dope beat to it but Goodie Mob's rhymes bordered on embarassing. I never liked 1,2,3 Goodie and Aint Nothing For Us is just pathetic and the sad thing about is that song has a dope beat to it. Plus there is the factor that Cee-Lo might have made the already good Dead Homies and God I Wanna Live a little better. In short this album is better than their last commercial fiasco but is pail in comparison to Hip Hop masterpieces like Soul Food and Still Standing. One monkey might have not stopped this show but that one monkey might have made this show a lot better. Standouts: SYNOPSIS, GOD I WANNA LIVE, DEAD HOMIES, HIGH AND LOW, WHAT YOU SEE and PLAY YOUR FLUTES.

4.0 out of 5 stars Can goodie produce the same soulful music without Cee-lo?, June 30, 2004

I thought the overall album was okay. Me being a diehard DF fan I think that I was expecting this album to be another classic. I think the album represents good down south music but it is not on the same level as the first two albums, it is better than world party. Goodie Mob without Cee-lo is a good group. With Cee-lo a great group. Theres my opinon. Go out and get it, see for yourself!!!

Bought it the first week and it doesn't leave the deck. I really dig the album. I was really bothered by the fact that the group lost a member. But all in all its a great buy for true Goodie - Fans. I think some people need to realize that artists grow just like we do. And for them to make the same they music that they did 10 years ago is obsurd. Of course Soul Food was a classic, but then again...it was the first of its kind. Now you have 3 other albums to compare to that... and nuts. None of them sound the same You need to compare it to whats out now, which is utter garbage. I didn't hear anything in this CD slamming Suga Baby. All in All I love the CD. And I can't wait to Gator drops some DF funk too.

2.0 out of 5 stars I remember the days..., July 9, 2004
This review is from: One Monkey Don't Stop No Show (Audio CD)
Goodie Mob used to stress mental strength and musical genius. Now they are attempting to sell an album based on their sour grapes from Cee-Lo's departure from the group. The lyrics and songs on this album are a testament to that. The first song "God I Wanna Live" teases the listener into thinking that they are about to embark on a mind journey, as induced by their first two albums, then quickly disappoints with "Shawty Wanna Be A Gansta" and "It Aint Nothin For Us." There is a line in "It Aint Nothin For Us" that goes "It aint nothin for us to put your head on your back/ For us to put your brains in your lap." That is the kind of mentality I try to escape from by listening to Goodie Mob. I guess they also have beef with they're caucasian listeners, since they flat out say that the gun is pointed at us now. Shame that the store I bought this album at has a no return policy once the cd is opened. Makes me want to support Napster, at least you dont have to keep the music you aquire. I am lenient with my reviews, this time I have to display my disappointment. I like 3 out of the albums 16 songs. So I rate this album with a 3.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Show Ain't Stoppin' -- but I Want the Monkey Back!, June 30, 2004
This review is from: One Monkey Don't Stop No Show (Audio CD)
Having waited years for new Goodie, my first stop after work was the record store. Sliding the new G MO-B in my CD player, I felt relief to hear a slick intro that did not scare me like that of World Party. Having listened to the album twice, I can honestly say that my mind finds the spots where Cee-Lo would have just added SO much to the mix. From the get go, God I Wanna Live's chorus just growls Cee-Lo. I'm not trying to dog my man Witchdoctor. But ladies and gentlemen, he ain't no Cee-Lo. The Goodie sound, to me, is the combination of four distinct voices...four souls that make music that means something! Though the album is a solid effort from Khujo, T-Mo, and Gipp, it's not what it could be. My favorite tracks after two listens are God I Wanna Live, One Monkey, Dead Homies, Goodiadvice, We Back, It Ain't Nothin For Us, High & Low, Big City, and What You See. Play Your Flutes, though a good song, is a little too World Party-mainstream for me --- as is Grindin' and Shawty Wanna Be A Gangsta. Out of those songs, nearly every track would be elevated to the level of genius with the simple addition of Carlito Green. Goodie can function fine without Cee-Lo. This album's production, lyrics, and writing are far above that of World Party's. However, the additions of Kurupt, Big Rube, and Bonecrusher would be unnecessary if the Goodie unit was complete.

I love Goodie Mob. I hope they take the Monkey out to the fans. It's been a solid 6 years since Goodie's toured. I was there when they opened for the Roots, and I'll be there again. I only hope that the Most High that Goodie love and let guide them will bring forgiveness and reconciliation with Cee-Lo. I can only imagine what seeing these songs live would be like with Cee-Lo bobbin' and weavin' on the stage where he should be....with Khujo, Big Gipp, and T-Mo.

Welcome back Goodie. We missed ya!

2.0 out of 5 stars Not impressed, July 16, 2004
This review is from: One Monkey Don't Stop No Show (Audio CD)
This one was a disappointment to me. Too many repetitive, boring beats. Not much to make it different from any other "dirty south" album you've heard lately. Like many, I miss the Soul Food days. The one standout on the album is the Play Your Flute song. I could listen to that one all day.

3.0 out of 5 stars Add Cee Lo And Mix (3.5 Stars), August 23, 2004
This review is from: One Monkey Don't Stop No Show (Audio CD)
All the significant things that should have been said about this album have pretty much been covered in all the previous reviews. And for the most part, they're all true. This is a good album that could've been better. But something is missing, and I think we all know what (or who) that is. Tracks like "Shawty Wanna Be A Gangsta", "High & Low", "One Monkey", and "Goodiadvice" are good songs, but they just don't sound like "Goodie" style tracks. And out of place tracks like "In Da Streets", "Big City", "Grindin", and "We Back" are wack and the beats just don't suit the G-Mo-B at all. And "It Ain't Nothin' For Us" was a huge mistake.....Goodie and gunplay mix about as well as water and a grease fire. But you will find that there are tracks like "God I Wanna Live", "Play Your Flutes", "123 Goodie", "What You See", and "Dead Homies" that are tight and are classic "Goodie style" tracks that have Mr. Green written all over them. If you want proof, just listen to the hook on "God I Wanna Live" or try to picture him singing some sort of hook on "Dead Homies". You can listen to this album and actually point out spots on the album where you could say "Insert Cee Lo Here". His absence is THAT apparent on some tracks. Overall, the CD is a solid effort. It's like a 1000 piece puzzle though........no matter how many pieces you have put together, it might be a great accomplishment, but it's not complete without the final piece. And on this album, the final (and most notable) piece is missing on this LP and that keeps a good album from being a great album.

Standout Tracks: 123 Goodie, Play Your Flutes feat. Sleepy Brown & Kurupt, God I Wanna Live feat. Witchdoctor, Synopsis feat. Big Rube, Dead Homies (My Favorite), and What You See
