More About the Author

Kerry Shook
Senior Pastor, Woodlands Church
Author of New York Times Best-Seller One Month to Live - Thirty Days to a No-Regrets Life

Kerry Shook is one of today's most gifted communicators offering a clear, contemporary and creative teaching style. He is the senior pastor of Woodlands Church, one of the fastest-growing churches in America.

Kerry and his wife, Chris, founded Woodlands Church, formerly Fellowship of The Woodlands, in l993; and since then, the church has grown to 17,000 in average attendance each weekend. Now Woodlands Church is one church in many locations with its Fellowship campus in The Woodlands outside of Houston and satellite campuses online, in the Humble/Kingwood/Atascocita area, Tomball and its newest location in Katy.

Kerry believes that church should be engaging and fun, calling it "The Best Hour of Your Week." He strives to eliminate the barriers of boredom, unfriendliness and fear that keep people from experiencing not just religion but a relationship with Jesus Christ. His messages are relevant, and his illustrations memorable.

Chris is the Director of Missions and Women's Ministry at Woodlands Church. Her missions' work has touched thousands of under-resourced people locally and in numerous countries around the world. Her Women's Ministry is one of the largest in the country providing fellowship, worship and Bible study opportunities to hundreds of women each week.

Kerry Shook Ministries is a worldwide television ministry that broadcasts to a local, national and international audience. Pastor Kerry and Chris can now be seen by millions in 50 states and over 200 countries worldwide.

Kerry and Chris' first book and New York Times Best-Seller, One Month to Live - Thirty Days to a No-Regrets Life, was released in February 2008. The book encourages readers to face their own mortality and live life to the fullest. The OneMonthtoLive.com Web site supports total life fitness and allows people to take the 30-Day Challenge. In addition, the One Month to Live Nationwide Church Growth Campaign is designed to help pastors unleash their church's potential.

Broken down into four weekly sections Week One: The Art of Being All There, Week Two: The Art of Acting Intentionally, Week Three: The Art of Risking Awkwardness and Week Four: The Are of Letting Go. Each week it made to help you focus on areas to build on your relationships with loved ones and friends. By day three I already knew that I wasn't being there for a lot of the people I was calling my friends. I had to re-evaluate those friendships and correctly place people in their right categories. I also loved that this book not only helps with renewing your relationships and making them stronger but it helps you make changes, learn ways to really be there for your loved ones and friends, and how to let go of things or people in your life that may be causing you problems.
If you're ready to learn about yourself and ways you can improve the relationships around you then you need to pick up this book. Don't pick it up lightly because it really causes you to look within and find the things that you need to change and work on. You may end up finding out you are not doing your part in those relationships.

I received the book "One Month to Love" from Waterbrook/Multnomah Publishing Company to read and review.
To much of our society today is based on selfishness and individualism, instead of building relationships. And we wonder why our relationships are failing and I am convinced we don't know how to build, or restore, or fix, our relationships. So this book by Kerry and Chris Shook is desperately needed in our day and time.
The authors do a good job in discussing, instructing, and informing about all aspects of our relationships. From getting into a relationship, to repairing a broken relationsip, to restoring a failed relationship. And they use the Bible to do all this, because it is the best book on relationships, because it is God's Word, and it is God who has created us to have relationships with other people. In fact, the Bible teaches us that this life is not about possessions, or material stuff, but about people and our relationships to these people.
We are not to use and misuse and abuse people for our own purposes, but to love, care for, and forgive people, because none of us are perfect, but we are to treat other people better than we treat ourselves. We are to love, have compassion and empathy for others, and treat others as we would want them to treat us. Jesus in his earthly life taught us how to do this the right way if we will study His life and then follow His example. If we will it will make a better world for our children and families.

I am not an expert on love and sometimes feel like I am not sure what to do in different situations. One Month to Love by Kerry and Chris Shook address how to make your core relationships better. They explain that it doesn't matter what point you are in your relationship there is room for growth. Each day there is a lesson such as the art of being all there, intentionally giving encouragement, acting intentionally and a wide range of other topics. The book gives personal examples that invoke thought and have daily challenges to push the reader out of their comfort zone. Some of the challenges really made me think on how I could improve and exposed areas where I need a lot of work.

One Month to Love is an easy read that is broken into 30 chapters to take your close relationships to the next level. The book made it easy to find ways to improve. I don't think anyone of us can say we are perfect, so this book is for everyone high school and up. I have to admit some of the challenges were harder than others, so be prepared to be honest with yourself.

I was given this book by Blogging for Books in exchange for an honest review.

Built into all of us is the desire to be loved and to have deep relationships with those around us. Loving deeply is not an easy thing to do and many never make it past the first part of shallow love. In One Month to Love: Thirty Days to Grow and Deepen Your Closest Relationships, Kerry and Chris Shook share Biblical principles that when put into practice will deepen our love for others and cause our relationships to grow.

While I do not believe any relationship will just change in 30 days, the Biblical principles that Kerry and Chris Shook share are excellent. This a great devotional that will cause your relationship with the Lord to grow and then cause your relationships with others to grow. I have highlighted many principles and look over them during my daily devotion time. It reminds me to pray for those I love and look past the surface to see the real person that they are.

It seems that we find ways to neglect our most important, closest relationships first--and have the most difficultly repairing and strengthening those relationships. One Month to Love by Chris and Kerry Shook is a great, self help guide to help readers rebuild and grow important relationships. The Christian book is broken into thirty days of insights, tips, advice and journal entry ideas to help readers delve deeper into personal relationships--and even take time for a little daily, personal reflection as well. I enjoyed the book and I found value in the daily exercises and activities. I think it is a great book to help you find a starting point in repairing your precious relationships and to help you maintain the health of your "strong" relationships.
