A glossy "pop" effort from Ronnie Milsap, May 5, 2006
This review is from: One More Try for Love (Audio CD)
One more try for Love was the first in a series of adventurous albums that showcased the musical diversity of Ronnie Milsap that puts him in a different league from many country stars then and now. Much of Milsap's music of the 80's had a prominent pop/adult contemporary flavor, and never more so than on this interesting 1984 album. This album literally has "80's" written all over it, from the glossy music to the flashy album cover showing Ronnie dressed in a white sportcoat like Don Johnson from Miami Vice!
Ronnie's warm, crystal clear voice really comes through in this set of songs. The title song is an ultra-smooth pop ballad in the vein of Lionel Richie and other R&B/pop crooners of the 80's. It is followed by a total rock song with a searing guitar solo and electronic backing vocals titled "She loves my car". There is no disputing Ronnie's abilities as a rock vocalist after hearing this track, and it is one of the most adventurous and dynamic tunes in Milsap's entire catalogue. There's not a country singer in the world who could pull off a song like this and make it sound so convincing! {It was accompanied by a flashy music video full of hot cars and hotter women.}
The number one single here is "Still Losing you", another smooth and soulful ballad that Ronnie handles beautifully. "Prisoner of the Highway" is one of his better rockers from the period that made the top ten, and there is even a strong duet with an uncredited female vocalist called "Night by Night". Other songs here like "She's always in love" and "Suburbia" are truly astonishing when you realize this is supposed to be a "country singer" you are listening to!
Fans of soft rock, adult contemporary, and 80's pop should seek out this rare album and be blown away.

I Remember It Well, August 27, 2006
This review is from: One More Try for Love (Audio CD)
It's a shame that at the time of this review this CD was very rare because it is a very strong compilation by Ronnie. Having owned the cassette not long after the Album was first issued I gotta say that I remember how much my entire family and I loved it and I am tempted to purchase an LP as a last resort. Ronnie Milsap was and still is an idol of mine and he is one of the best!
