5.0 out of 5 stars My , what jam session !, January 11, 2005
This review is from: One More Once (Audio CD)
This album is a true masterwork . Michael Camilo was extremely inspired . From the soft ballade The Resolution to the best rack of the CD Caribe loaded with latin taste in a fest session with Paquito d' Rivera and Giovanni Hidalgo in Congas . One more once , Why not? , The Suite Sandrine and Just Kidding are the peaks in this monumental and overwhelming work.
To my mind one of the ten best fusion jazz albums in that year.

5.0 out of 5 stars Superb, November 26, 2004

I write only to mention, since no one else has, that this CD features Giovanni Hidalgo on congas. There is every other conga player in the world, and then there's Giovanni. Yes, he's that good.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Tour De Force, January 3, 2006

This CD demonstrates Michel Camilo's skills as a composer and arranger, in addition to his mastery of the piano. His virtuosity is dazzling as always. A Latin flavor pervades the album, but you can hear the blues and funk influences as well. The tunes are mostly upbeat and highly syncopated. It's great fun to listen - one of my all-time favorites. "Just Kidding" and "Caribe" are worth the price of admission alone. Great driving music - but keep your eyes on the speedometer!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Sonic Masterpiece, December 27, 2002

This review is from: One More Once (Audio CD)
One More Once is quite possibly the easiest recommendation in my entire jazz collection, and that's saying something. Every track is laced with passion and expression, and beauty. "Why Not?" is in-your-face Latin Jazz at its finest, with a freakishly tight horn section that blows my hair back every time I hear it. "Suite Sandrine" and "Dreamlight" are a welcome reprieve from the intensity of previous tracks, and offer captivating grooves that make the 8+ minutes per song more than welcome. The second half of the album is a return to upbeat material that's crisp and engaging, with memorable themes throughout. Michel Camilo shows his brilliance as a musician, composer, and arranger on every track -- this CD is quite possibly his finest work. A must-have for any jazz lover.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic blend of stage band horns and latin rhythms, June 25, 1998
This review is from: One More Once (Audio CD)
One More Once vaults to the top of my favorite albums list. Michel Camilo's piano jazz is augmented with a full rip-roaring and perfectly tight horn section to produce some rockin' jazz. Camilo's trademark latin fundamentals (he calls it his "New York" style) come through cleanly without overpowering. He lays the horns and percussion on that base to provide a truly energizing and original work. Turn it up -- an awesome CD.

5.0 out of 5 stars This CD is amazing, not one bad track!, May 31, 1998

This review is from: One More Once (Audio CD)
This is one of the best albumns I have ever heard. The blend of latin and contemporary style is seamless. Michel Camilo's piano work is brilliant as are the horn arangements. Stand out performers are Michel and Jon Faddis who suprisingly doesn't solo. But then again he doesn't really need to. All up a tight, clean modern latin jazz oriented albumn.

I have owned this CD since its release back in 1994. Tonight I put it in my CD deck for the first time in a while. I have just been reminded of what an amazing masterpiece of an album this is. I have loved it since I first heard it and loved it once again tonight!
The musicianship, the writing and arranging, the sonic quality, the complexity of the music, the UNBELIEVABLE level of professional playing here and everything else you could say about this fabulous record!
If you are a fan of big band jazz and you haven't had the opportunity to hear this record, do not wait any longer! Get one of these discs before you can't. It's already 13 years old but it sounds like it was done current day. It is timeless.
I am surprised we don't hear more about the drummer Cliff Almond. Spectacular drumming here! "Smitty" does a great job too!
Looks like ten bucks buys this here on Amazon. What are you waiting for????

5.0 out of 5 stars Could be one of the best..., April 5, 2005
This review is from: One More Once (Audio CD)
I agree that this is one of my favorite cds of all time and when I first got it, didn't stop listening to it for months! It could be one of the best Latin-Big Band cds of all time, but I hesitate to say that only because I don't own much else (a few here and there) to compare it to. I can't imagine anything being better that this disc, from the awesome soloing by everyone involved, to Faddis' lead playing and the percussion... this is a fun, summertime party kind of cd, but with beautiful ballads, that can put me in the best possible mood just from listening.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely "stonking" album, August 18, 1999

This is definitely a must-buy CD. Delicious Latin Jazz sound from one of the best. If you like this kind of jazz, Michel Camilo's 1990 album "On The Other Hand" is definitely another must-buy!
