5.0 out of 5 stars Bring all my mules out here & kick 'em one time!
That's one of the funny lines Skynyrd singer-songwriter Ronnie Van Zant yells out during one of the many killer guitar solos on this kick-a$$ live CD. I truly can't say enough about this CD. On the 4 Skynyrd studio CDs prior to this one, Van Zant proved he was an incredible lyricist. On this one, he proved he was just as good a frontman. Being a guitar player myself, I...

2.0 out of 5 stars A flat live perfomance from a great studio band
I don't want to insult anybody, but I bought this CD based on the other reviews here, and I was dissappointed. Granted, I am not a hard core fan of L.S. I like their music, but I think they may be better in the studio. The production values were poor, the sound muddy, and I thought the studio versions of almost every song was better than the live. I rented their...

On the 4 Skynyrd studio CDs prior to this one, Van Zant proved he was an incredible lyricist. On this one, he proved he was just as good a frontman. Being a guitar player myself, I always loved the fact that Skynyrd is/was a 3-guitar band. Guitarists Allen Collins, Gary Collins & then-newcomer Steve Gaines all played their a$$es off on this CD. Very inspiring! There's also some great drumming by Artimus Pyle, & of course some awesome piano work by Billy Powell. I love all of the '70's Skynyrd CDs, but this one's probably my favorite one. ENJOY!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Original Skynyrd Live ! This ones a MUST !, March 29, 2000
This review is from: One More From the Road (Audio CD)
Ronnie Van Zant ,Allen Collins,Gary Rossington,Steve Gaines,Billy Powell,Artimus Pyle, and Leon Wilkeson This was the line up of Skynyrd at it's live peak and it was captured on this release by the ledgendary Tom Dowd. Originally released on vinyl in 1976 This included the best cuts the band had to offer: Saturday Night Special,Sweet Home Alabama,T for Texas(this one smokes !) and of course Freebird.

This was recorded at the Fox Theatre in Atlanta and the band worked their collective a-s's off to make a live recording of their peak performances. Great vocals, searing guitars, and Artimus Pyles'perfect timing on drums makes this a truly scorching Cd. Along with Street Suvivors this is the peak of an incredible band. TURN IT UP LOUD !

5.0 out of 5 stars southern masterpiece, May 20, 2001

growing up in the 70's was perhaps the best time to grow up (except the '50's) for rock and roll. Especially the south, where bands like Skynyrd, was the king and the Allman's were the bible from which they studied. "One more from the road", sounds as good as the live cd's of today, and that album was cut when I was 13 years old,and now I am 38. Being from that area and era, one can't help but be proud and fall in love with its harmonies and instrumentals. Its only once in a lifetime that such artists come together and you are around to witness their greatness. May you live in our hearts forever......

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply the Best., November 3, 2000

This review is from: One More From the Road (Audio CD)
This is my all-time favorite album. I love Skynyrd and this listening to "Freebird" live is what made me want to play guitar. Allen Collins is so underrated that it's pitiful, but he really was a great player. As was Gaines and and Rossington. Rossington, who's also underappreciated, gets more recognition however because he's still leading Skynyrd today. Ronnie Van Zant's vocals are raw and authentic and his remarks and dialogue between songs are priceless. The instrumentalists put on the real show though. The disc builds to a feverish climax on the second cd with Rossingon turning in excellent solos on "Gimme 3 Steps" and "Call Me the Breeze." All three guitarist get into the act on "T for Texas", whipping the crowd into a energetic frenzy. "Sweet Home Alabama" sounds like the climax to a great show, and the album would be great if it ended there, but the real climax is yet to come. Collins rips out virtuoso solos on their cover of "Crossroads" and then flawlessly performs one of the most reknowed guitar solos of all time on the band's encore, "Freebird." The interplay between Gaines and Collins is nuthing short of spectacular. I highly recommend this album to any fan of rock and roll. Turn it up, and enjoy!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best Live CDs Ever, March 13, 2001

This is the best example of Lynyrd Skynyrd, Period. If you only want to get one Skynyrd CD, this is it. From the opening "Working For MCA" to the Closing Definitive version of "Free Bird", it is Skynyrd in their element and playing their hearts out. Other highlights are "Gimme Three Steps", "Searching" and "T for Texas". The remastering puts the listener right in the middle of all the action. By the time CD ends you're breathless, tired and wanting more.

I was 14 when my brother bought the original 2 lp set in 1977 from the local import store. It struck me then as a cohesive and definitive statement. I have played the LP and tape in my car ever since first hearing it, finding something new to hear at every listening. The depth of the performance of these seven guys (and three great back up singers) in T for Texas, Searchin' and Freebird is always rewarding. I hadn't updated to CD until I saw the remastered version with additional tracks in 1996 and the purchase of this version expanded the experience further. That the tracks are played in their performed order creates a greater continuity, the additional tracks (with the exception of the less than necessary additional version of Sweet Home Alabama) provide greater insight (I always thought Gimme Back My Bullets [The LP] was underrepresented on the original release) and overall a greater feel of being there. The price is cheap, the content is without peer and I urge you purchase this as soon as you can.

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding! MCA atones for their earlier transgression!, November 18, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: One More From the Road (Audio CD)
When I first got the CD version of this fabulous recording I was horrified to see that certain songs had been deleted to make it a "1 CD" super saver. I wrote MCA and told them they needed to release the full recordings on 2 CDs, that the Skynyrd fans out there would gladly pay the extra $10 for the 2nd CD. My wish came true when they released this double CD set with all the recordings, including a couple that did not appear on the original double LP (of which I own 2 sets). The dialogue on Whiskey Rock-a-Roller where Ronnie forgets the name of the song is priceless and obviously, the music is great. Can't beat that 3 song set of Gimme 3 steps, Call me the Breeze, and T for Texas for cruisin' down the road. Easy to go 90 listening to that! Thank you MCA for fixing your earlier mistake!!! I have every Skynyrd album they offered, including 2 LPs of Street Survivors in the original flame jackets. This album, along with Second Helping and Street Survivors are my 3 favorites.

5.0 out of 5 stars One For the Ages, May 12, 2006
This review is from: One More From the Road (Audio CD)
Simply stated, if you do not own this, you are not a fan of good music. Yes the sound quality may not be on par with today's standards. However, this is a great, dare I say, historical document of one of the all time great lineups EVER!. The addition of guitarist Steve Gaines kicked these guys in the pants at a time when they needed it.

It's about time they get the the respect they deserve by being voted into the Rock and Roll HOF.
