SNL's Franken & Davis' "Breakout" Flick,

This review is from: One More Saturday Night [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This was supposed to be a vehicle for 70's Saturday Night Live writing and comedy team, Franken & Davis. It's about a Saturday night in a small midwest town, when an unsigned rock band comes to play at the local bar. Frabken & Davis are both extremely funny, as are the bands' songs (written with members of the Grateful Dead, who, you can bet, are also playing on the soundtrack).
It's bright, whimsical and easy to enjoy. It was a cut above the junk floating around when it was released, but, for one reason or another, it never got proper distribution. That, and having one of the most forgetable titles I've ever heard, signed it's death warrant. Don't expect this to show up on DVD anytime soon, it hasn't even been discovered as a cult film, yet. And, as far as I know, even rabid fans of the Dead aren't aware of their involvement in the project. So, grab this now; you won't be disappointed. |
