4.0 out of 5 stars Good true-life story, very inspirational
Let's clear this from the start: this is not a Hollywood blockbuster. It wasn't meant to be. There are no flashy special effects. No hyper-modern new musical scores. No big-name actors. In fact, a nice touch of this movie is that real wrestling heroes play the parts. While this does lower the acting a bit, it also tends to draw any real wrestler deeper into the movie...

3.0 out of 5 stars More of a don't give up on your dream story....heart felt.
One must understand the genesis of this film. Not only is at based on a real story, but the actors are the real people as well. We were trying to accomplish two goals. One, tell an inspirational story and, two, portray the real sport of wrestling by allowing real wrestlers to perform. While, admittedly, the acting leaves something to be desired, the individuals in...

Let's clear this from the start: this is not a Hollywood blockbuster. It wasn't meant to be. There are no flashy special effects. No hyper-modern new musical scores. No big-name actors. In fact, a nice touch of this movie is that real wrestling heroes play the parts. While this does lower the acting a bit, it also tends to draw any real wrestler deeper into the movie. In spite of all that (because of it?) almost anyone who loves wrestling--and even many who don't necessarily love it--will love this movie. Based on a true story, it portrays the determination and struggles of two men making a last shot at a chance at the Olympics. Without giving away the end, I can say that you'll be on the edge of your seat during the final match, and if you give it chance, you'll walk away from the movie with a new look at wresting, athletics, and life in general. Highly recommended!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great wrestling, great story, September 16, 1999

What a refreshing movie. This true story is amazing. It's nice to see real people in a movie. If you can only enjoy a movie if the most polished actor are in it, this isn't for you. But if you want to be inspired by some of the best wrestlers the sport has known, this movie is a must. My team watches it every year and requests to see it more.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great for younger wrestlers, August 5, 1999

This review is from: One More Shot [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I think this movie had a great moral and is a good insporational film for younger wrestlers that are looking for greatness. The acting in the movie is pretty poor but heah, there wrestlers not actors. My nine year old 4x state champion, and 4x national champion cousine loved it. This film is a must for all wrestlers vidio collections.

You must realize who the actors are and look past that aspect. If you are looking for realistic wrestling action and/or super acting, pass this one up. If you are looking for a never give up, motivational movie this ones for you. My 8 year old can't get enough, that in itself tells you it has a fantastic story line.

5.0 out of 5 stars A video any athlete will enjoy, and every wrestler will love, December 10, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: One More Shot [VHS] (VHS Tape)
One of the first things that caught my attention about this video was that it was based on a true story. And after watching it, all I can say is what a story it was! Not only exciting for the wrestler, or anyone interested in athletics, this story actually has a moral, and teaches principles and character. The acting can be weak at times, but that's completely forgiveable considering real wrestling "heroes" (such as Dan Hodge) were the stars. A refreshing change from the usual good-while-it-lasted blockbuster, this video definitely belongs in every wrestler's collection as a classic.
