An Eagle at His Best,
By
This review is from: One More Song (Audio CD)
Randy Meisner shines on this album. Indeed, this album may be the best of ANY Eagles solo album. Great vocals and melodies throughout. Some of the best songs that Randy's ever done. And, by far the best of his 3 solo albums. This album is as enjoyable today as it was when it was released. Its hits--"Deep Inside My Heart" and "Hearts on Fire"--remain great listens today. Many of the others tracks are memorable--"Gotta Get Away" and "One More Song" (featuring some familiar Eagles voices) in particular. There's nothing on this album with quite the same feel as "Take It to the Limit," but just about every track is as strong. For those who like the Eagles/Poco sound, this is a "must have" album. Twenty years after its release it still soars.

Overlooked Gem,

This is one of those albums that doesn't have a bad cut on it and just gets better every time you play it. Meisner's soulful voice and heart felt lyrics reach down and grab you where you live. The tone of the album is bittersweet with the flavor of loves lost and lives in the limbo of an uncertain future with just enough hope to go on, or not enough choice not to. The feel is similar to Willie Nelson's classic "Red-Headed Stranger". Randy kind of got lost in the crowd with his solo efforts after he and the Eagles parted ways but this album rises above his other offerings. The music shows a cross section of styles never displayed during his Eagles period, especially the jazz influence shown in tracks like "Trouble Ahead" and "Anyway Bye Bye" that are reminiscent of certain New Riders of the Purple Sage tunes from their "Adventures of Panama Red" album. This work would definitely have made the jukebox at Barney's Beanery. Country-Rock-Jazz has never been defined as a commercial genre though it can be found in the album cuts of numerous classic bands. The lyrics are real and the music has enough hooks to keep you interested and the songs in your head long after the disc is done. "Hearts On Fire" and "Deep Inside My Heart" have a more familiar rock sound while the title cut ballad, "One More Song" should be on anyone's list of classic anthems. This one deserves to be in your collection. If you even think you might like it, get it, you won't be sorry.

The BEST,

This is one of my absolute favorite cd's.There is not one bad song on this album. I have looked everywhere for it. The first time I found it was in Hawaii in 1981 and I have never found it since.

One More Song INDEED!,
By Barry Ellis (Pittsburgh, PA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: One More Song (Audio CD)
A truly wonderful and melodic effort from the Eagle who "couldn't handle the pressure and competition". It's never been clear just exactly why Randy left the Eagles, whether due to Glenn and Don's refusal to give him more track-time or his desire to make his OWN music. Regardless, he wound up only making three solo albums in the late 70's and early 80's, of which "One More Song" was the middle effort. He didn't appear again for many years until he did some excellent work with Poco, only to disappear again....Randy, where are you? Unfortunately, "One More Song" is the only one of his albums I've seen available on CD (anybody out there who can happily prove me wrong?), but it is WELL worth having if you like melodic ballads and great country-rock tunes. Plus, I ALWAYS felt Randy was the BEST vocalist in The Eagles and his Eagle tunes are my favorites from them.

The "forgotten" Eagle realy shines !,
By
This review is from: One More Song (Audio CD)
Randy Meisner, let us call him the "forgotten" Eagle, brings us here on this CD, a lovable breeze, and a hybrid musical joy somewhere inbetween Poco (another group wich he had played for) and Eagles soft core quality country music which realy has the right sting to it. He puts you into a good mood with Track 1 which i will call the "hit song that should have been" Hearts on Fire, and ended with Track 9 Anyway Bye Bye. But the best thing on this CD is the quality which shines all trough. Eagles members Don Henley and Glen Frey, and Jack Tempchin as one of the songwriters on One More Song, i wonder how you can possibly go wrong. But the best thing about the CD is the "mood" all trough. So relaxable to listen to. It`s the simplenes and the smooth soundpicture that realy lifts this one. Track 5 I Need you Bad put`s you into a Desperado mood, can you realy ask for more ? Track 6 One More Song, is high standard, and when you hear Frey and Henley in the background. Woooah. This one realy does it. Highly recomended.

Classic Eagles,

Side one is one of my favorite album sides(from days of the LP). If you like early Eagles, you will like this album. Randy Meisner's influence as an Eagle can be heard here on his solo effort. Has background vocals by Kim Carnes, Henley & Frey.

I have this LP... and I love it! But at these kind of prices, I guess I'll just have to settle for burning it to CD. Thanx anyway!

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)

I do like Randy's music, lyrics, & his style, so to me this is a great CD. This was a hard to get CD. Amazon recommended some individual site(Novel Books). At first I was hesitant. The CD came sooner than I expected. I was concerned about the quality of it,but it came wrapped carefully & undamaged.

One of my all-time top ten,

When I was a senior in high school in the fall of 1980, one of my teachers turned me on to this album. Since then, I've had it on album, cassette (twice), and I even think that I once had it on 8-track. I currently have a CD, and it is one of my favorites. I like every song on it (although Trouble Ahead is my least favorite).I'm honestly surprised that some other artist has not taken "I Need You Bad" and released it as a single. I would recommend it to anyone.

Was sure looking for this - You can now find it here on Amazon,
This review is from: One More Song (Audio CD)
I have sure been looking for this album. As of today, you can get a double CD of One More Night & his self-titled 1st album right here on Amazon. Look under: "One More Song/Randy Meisner". I didn't realize it but the CD has been re-issued a couple of times in recent years. Personally, I only like the 2 hits: Deep Inside My Heart & Hearts on Fire. You can get live(pretty decent) videos of those 2 songs(and more if you want) either off the TUBE, or his own website. Out on Napstr, you can get stuff from a Covers-Band he had for a while, "The Driving Dynamics". The songs were early Rock-n-Roll stuff like: Kansas City, Little Queenie, You Send Me, & etc. I, personally didn't like the way they were done at all - but somebody else might think differently,
