WARNING: This book is incredibly addictive to toddlers!!!,
By
This review is from: One Naked Baby (Hardcover)
My 2-year old son received this book as a gift a week ago, and has ignored all of his other books in favor of this cute little counting adventure. He usually says "the end" once we reach the last page of a book (and goes to grab another), but once the title character gets back in the bath at the end, all I hear is "again"...over and over again. By now my wife and I have this book committed to memory, and our son's not too far behind us.
I understand why he loves it so much. He loves to count, there are plenty of neat items to point out in the background on each page, and the main character's daily routine is similar to his own. Beyond that, the rhythm of the story is surprisingly captivating, given just how few words are on each page. Whatever the reason, One Naked Baby has quickly become the most (only) requested book in our house. I'm actually starting to miss past favorites Good Night, Gorilla and Hug. My only complaint is that there is no board book version available. A book this addictive to toddlers would benefit from a less fragile format. Still, that's a minor gripe for this charming book that has so thoroughly captured my son's interest.

Another wonderful read from Maggie Smith,

I bought the book for my 17 month old daughter last month and we have had a wonderful time reading it together. Mostly she loves the illustraions (given her age) and pointing at the baby who appears thoughtout and saying "baby". She is very gentle and respectful of the paper pages (norally she reads board books) which is a testimony to how much she values it. We took off the dustcover and set it up on her table in her room so she can see it as well as a piece of artwork. The artwork thoughout is wonderful, the colors so rich and the images very evocative of farms and gardens I knew as a child in the country. We think the counting theme will sink in very soon, although the target age for that is somewhat older. The story is simple enough for a very young audience, but the illustrations and the wealth of subject matter rich enough that I think this is a book most children will treasure for a very long period of time.

I loved this book! Every time I opened it I found something new. With counting numbers, adorable animals and wonderful details, from the first page to the last this bouncing baby boy book is completely charming! The illustrations and simple rhyming text make this book a winner. Young children will reach for it again and again with a new discovery each time.

Our daughter is almost two and has loved this book since she was 18 months old. The illustrations are wonderful and completely capture her toddler world. It is a delightful book to read aloud. In fact, it is one of the few children's books that my husband and I both enjoy reading time and again. This book is a great addition to any toddler's library.

One Naked Baby,

I was an early childhood librarian for 20+ years and bought this book for my 20 month old grandbaby. Six months later it is still one of her favorites... and she loves being the naked baby ;-)

This is an easy number book in the day of a toddler. It counts to 10 and then back down to 1. It's the perfect length for an active 2 year old.

I bought this book for my son when he was around 1 year old and he just fell in love with it. For a while he would request it every time we read a story. He is three now so other books have caught his fancy but when he does ask me to read it to him, it never fails to capture our attention and imaginations. Once my son could talk he would ask countless questions about the boy and his adventures on each page. It never ceases to amaze me that he can continually find something new that we didn't notice the last time we read the story. For a while he would hug the book when it was turned to the page with "two fat cats". Each page reminds me of life with a little one, where the house has children's things strewn all over, laundry piled high, food crumbs on the floor but over and above all that it is the little things that count, like planting spring flowers, finding sticks (which my son was fascinated with for a while, too) and just being together. The perfect book to share with the little one in your life.

A four-year-old's favorite,

Nice art and a simple counting game make this one fun the first fifty times and then a little tedious thereafter. But that the kids want to read it over and over means that it is a good choice -- you'll just eventually run away too after too many reads!

This is a fun counting book about an inquisitive toddler who gets clean and then quite dirty in the course of one fun-filled day. The illustrations are colorful and engaging and it is great in that it presents numbers for young readers. I think this is great for children from around 1 year through 4 years. My 2 year old likes it a lot.
