5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome punk CD with a serious message, March 21, 2003

Thanks to a stand at a Native American Arts Fest in Phoenix, AZ by Canyon Records, I was able to sample a lot of Native American music. And when I heard that there was actually a punk one, I thought, what the heck...and what a pleasant surprise it was! For those who enjoy bands like Bad Religion, Pennywise and the like, you will be right at home with this CD. I have been a fan of punk from when it started, and this CD ranks in my Top 10. Well arranged and executed with sheer emotion and raw power, Blackfire puts a wake up call to us all - and what a better bunch to do so than Native Americans, with a shameful history of abuse from the white man. The songs are tight, and with screaming lyrics like 'There is blood on the hands of time!!', well, it got this listener very interested. This is NOT your 'typical' Native American Music CD (flutes, drums and lots of chanting), although we do get some traditional chants in some of the songs - and believe it or not, they fit very well with the mood of the song. Akin to Medicine Dream - who add a rock element to the native sound - this band put together a great punk CD with well written songs and musicianship that would rival today's popular punk bands.

Even if you are not into punk, but say into bands that have an edge with anger (Linkin Park, Sevendust, etc) - give Blackfire a try. This is not the sloppy, 3 chord punk that many bands cashed in on during the halcyon punk years - this is good stuff!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Northern Arizona Still Rocks, October 30, 2002
This review is from: One Nation Under (Audio CD)
The first time I met the Benally's, they impressed me with their kindness. The next time i saw them, the blew me away with their stage performance. I have seen Blackfire too many times to count, played a couple of shows with them, and even helped assisted with shows when ever they need me. Blackfire is just one of the many great bands that are from the flagstaff area and they are one of the best. Check this album out, see them if you can and check out their web site (blackfire.net). Get involved.

5.0 out of 5 stars Blackfire's "One Nation Under" is their best yet, December 12, 2001

In a world where "punk" has become completely commodified and soulless, Blackfire is refreshing. If you like your music heavy and with a dose of consciousness, give 'em a listen. I've seen them perform live, and I love their energy. This is their best CD yet. For more on the band, check 'em out (...)

5.0 out of 5 stars Punk lives on with Blackfire, March 2, 2003

I had never heard of Blackfire until this weekend at the Indian Arts fest at the Heard in Phoenix thanks to the Canyon booth. I have listened to this CD nonstop since I got it, and I am really impressed with their emotion and anger, as well as their great musicianship throughout this CD. I thought real good punk had just about died, and this CD gave me hope...leave it to the native americans to put in a REAL wake up call!...

If you are tired of the glossed-out punk of today and want something that rocks out, do NOT be put off by the fact that this is 'native american' (something that I always associated with a lot of hoo-haaa, simple drum beats and stuff that I did not quite understand - pardon my ignorance!!) This CD belongs next to the TOP punk stuff out there, and their message is REAL and heartfelt. 5 stars to Blackfire - looking forward to more!
