Excellent recording with Stanley Jordan's solos a particular highlight, well worth seeking out for the historical value as well as the quality of the music

Charles Lloyd, Michel Petrucianni and Stanley Jordan for fillers, June 11, 2008
This review is from: One Night With Bluenote Vol 4 (Audio CD)
Now that the DVD has been released and the magic four-song set with Charles Lloyd, Cecil McBee, Jack DeJohnette and the magestic 4'10" pianist Michel Petrucianni who brought Lloyd back from a 15-year exile from jazz (he invested enormously successfully in California Real Estate) when Lloyd discovered the 18 year-old French pianist who had never heard of him was renting the apartment downstairs from Charles. This, ironically, is the original and most successful Charle Lloyd Quartet with Pettruciani sitting in for Keith Jarrett. What a joy!
Stanley Jordan is always good in small portions and playing to a crowd that doesn't know what to expect of him and marvels in his technique. His pianistic style of playing guitar limits the use of chords and string-bending needed to play more bluesy material. I saw him recently sitting in with Les Paul at Iridium in NYC and he seemed to find those new colors in his pallett.
BUY the whole four LP set. You will not be disappointed. For example, "Cantelope Island" live is by far superior to the original album cut and exciting from start to finish. To get the full amount videotaped that magic night you need to find both the DVD and VHS or Laser Disc copies. It may also be your only chance to see the brilliant trumpeter Woody Shaw, altoist Lou Donaldson and tenor saxist Joe Henderson among others.
