More About the Author

Noelle handwrote her first romance novel in a spiral-bound notebook when she was twelve, and she hasn't stopped writing since. She has lived in eight different states and currently resides in Virginia, where she reads any book she can get her hands on and offers tribute to a very spoiled cocker spaniel.

She loves travel, art, history, and ice cream. After spending far too many years of her life in graduate school, she has decided to reorient her priorities and focus on writing contemporary romances.

This is steamy novella in the ‘One Night’ series of novellas by Noelle Adams, which explores how everything can change in just one night. Here, Anne has been working for ex-professional surfer Jake as his personal assistant for the last seven years. For the last two of those years she has been madly in love with him, but sees no reciprocation on his part. Whether he isn’t interested because they work together or he just isn’t interested full stop she doesn’t know.

“She’d worked for him for years, and he’d never showed her the slightest sign of real interest. An intense look now and then didn’t mean anything. Besides, he was her boss, and he would never make a move on her – simply because of that.”

However, today things have changed; Marketing graduate Anne wasn’t able to get a job in Marketing when she graduated because of the downturn in the economy which is how she ended up working for Jake, but now she’s just been offered just the type of job she wants. The only downside for her is not being able to see Jake any more, but she can’t hold back on her career just for that:

“Anne nodded, feeling better and determined now to give notice this afternoon, to make it real, to get it over with. “It’s about me. And a great job. And finding a guy who actually wants me.”

When Anne tells Jake that she’s resigning he seems desperate to keep her as his assistant, which doesn’t bode well for Anne’s feelings towards him. She knows that Jake prioritises his business over everything else and this just underlines her determination to leave. Jake and Anne have to go out of town on business that evening, and she finds that her roommates were correct, Jake does see her as more than just part of the office fixtures and fittings...

I have been a fan of Noelle Adams for quite sometime now and was anticipating this next book in, what has been, a really good series. As it stands now, this is my favorite of the group. This story is in novella form and makes for a quick, easy, but very enjoyable read. One of Adam's best writing skills is her ability to flesh out the characters and give them an intensity and depth in which the reader can completely immerse themselves. I found that to be true in her other longer works but it amazes me how she accomplishes the task in a novella only six chapters in length. You fall in love with Anne and Jake from the first few pages and understand the holding pattern that is their relationship and Anne's need to leave behind the man she loves for her own sanity and survival. This novella is well written and will leave you feeling you've invested in their relationship and have read a much longer story. The situations were realistic and you have no trouble putting yourself in the lead characters's issues and decisions. I found the storyline refreshing in that it was strictly from Anne's POV. You felt her uncertainty in dealing with Jake who was very hard to read in his typical, yet lovable, alpha male persona. They are a more mature couple - Jake is in his thirties - and this added much to the feel and the plot of the novella. The sex scenes were remarkable and intimate and romantic and steamy and, well, Noelle Adams at her best. I hope there will be more in this series but, if not, what a terrific story with which to finish. Give her other works a try as well. Salvation is one of my favorites as is Escorted and Breaking. No Regrets is one of my favorite of her most recent works. I preorder everything written by Noelle Adams/Claire Kent because I know I can escape into a well written, romantic world for hours at a time. This novella is a great opportunity to try her work but I promise you, you can't read just one. If you already read her novels you know you are in for a treat.

Would recommend this book. One Night with her Boss is a short well written book. No cliffhanger which I like. Will look for more in this series though.

I generally enjoy Noelle Adams books, but One Night with Her Boss is not the best of her works. It was an alright read, but not as good as I would have hoped.

Anne has been working for Jake for a number of years now. She never meant for her assistant job to be permanent. She took it when she needed to be close to family and she has been in love with Jake for the past two years. She is finally starting to try and find another job and hopefully move on. After all to her Jake has never been anything but her boss. He never seems to want more from her, even if her friends think he does.

When Anne gives her two weeks notice Jake does not take it very well. He needs Anne. He wants Anne. Things move quickly as this is a novella, but that was fine. I was enjoying the story. My issue with the story? The sexy time was awkward. The writing was a bit off for me for some reason and it just didn't work. Not sure why as I have read the authors other works and never had an issue with this, but in this instant it just was not good for me. That and Anne is a little ridiculous at the end causing drama when there was no need. But it all works out in the end and everyone is happy. A good read, just not an amazing read.

Anne worked for Jake as his Admin. She had a degree in marketing, but couldn't find a job after graduation. This job was temporary until she could land a marketing gig.

SEVEN or EIGHT years later, she is still working for Jake, seriously attracted to him. As far as she knows, Jake doesn't feel anything for her, including attraction.

Jake is attracted to her, BUT, doesn't move forward because he is her boss and thinks it would be inappropriate.

This all comes to a head when she decides that she can no longer pine over Jake, she must move on. She tells Jake she is leaving. You can figure out the rest.

The thing that really irritated me about Anne is her lack of communication skills. From a Marketing major, really? When she pulled that stunt in San Diego, I was done.

I didn't get any real sense of chemistry between the two of them. This was a quick, ok read. I have read other books by this writer that I enjoyed much more. This one was OK.
