I should have waited for customer reviews.,
By Dan Russell (Tuscola, IL USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: One Night (Audio CD)
Having remembered Ms. Anton's voice from years earlier, I ordered the CD as soon as it was released without waiting to read any reviews. I'm not saying this is a bad CD; rather, the style of singing she has evidentally chosen for this particular phase of her career is simply not the style I enjoy. I remember a beautiful, gentle voice from having listened to Ms. Anton years previously. Over the years, I have wished she would release more music; however, I personally found her style on "One Night" to have an overpowering harshness to it. I find this personal experience to be one more reason, services like Napster should be allowed to operated unrestricted. To qualify that statement, readers should be aware that my daughter Jody has a CD available on Amazon, and I do understand the sizable financial investment that goes into releasing a CD and promoting it. However, as a consumer, I get extremely frustrated spending approximately $15.00 on a new CD just to find that I probably won't listen to it very often at all.

"exactly what it promises & then some",
This review is from: One Night (Audio CD)
Susan Anton's love for music goes back to the age of five, she would want something from her parents ~ they would ask her to sing for them. Enjoyed many groups in the '60s (the Beatles, Herman's Hermits) ~ but it was Bob Dylan's music that saved her troubled teenaged soul, manytimes she got connected in what it could provide in terms of guidance and expression to set her life's standards. These days Anton's favorite composers/artists include ~ Marc Cohn and Beth Nielsen Chapman ~ music that tells a story we can relate to ~ blends great artistry and sophistication in each melody. To pick standouts is not easy, but here goes ~ "THE COLOR OF ROSES" (Beth Nielsen Chapman/Matthew Charles Rollings) ~ "FOR MY WEDDING" (McNally) ~ "FOREVER YOUNG" (Bob Dylan) ~ touches the very depths of your soul and tugs at your heartstrings. Special thanks to ~ Michael Cuneo (producer) ~ Susan Anton and Cary E. Mansfield (executive producers) ~ Peter Docter (live recording engineer) ~ David Wild (liner-notes) ~ Hal Lifson (creative consultant) ~ Bill Pitzonka (art direction/design) ~ hope this is just the beginning of many more sessions with the wonderfully blessed...SUSAN ANTON! Total Time: 51:27 on 13 Tracks...Varese Sarabande 302 066 220 2...(2001)
