Editorial Reviews

From Grove Press Guide to Blues on CD

William "Count" Basie's first big band sides, in 1937, are fraught with exemplary Kansas City blues spirit, always more jubilation than sadness. Of seventeen selections, "Boogie Woogie" and "One O'Clock Jump" are the swinging riff-blues masterpieces, with trumpeter Buck Clayton soloing on both. The original analog recordings have some rough sections. -- © Frank John Hadley 1993

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow!, August 5, 2009
This review is from: One O'Clock Jump (Audio CD)
This is a live concert from 1959 or early 1960. They are at top form - with lots of shouts of encouragement from the audience. You'll hear people speaking during the quiet parts but that's actually the band members. If you have a high quality stereo, you will not be sorry you bought this. Wow.
