Digitally remastered and expanded 30th Anniversary edition of this 1979 Jazz classic. This edition of the Grammy award-winning, million-selling album includes two bonus tracks and in-depth sleeve notes and interviews with Bob James and Earl Klugh. Salvo. 2009.

These two artists together are powerful. The combination of James smooth keyboard with the ultra soft guitar of Earl Klugh make this cd magic. Bassist Ron Carter is featured throughout the recording and is first rate on my favorite cut Mallorca. Bob James arrangements on this recording make the difference. (Hard to imagine from a guy who looks like a middle school guidance counselor.) Aside from the cd being too short, the only criticism I have is why didn't they get together sooner. I sent back their cd Two of a kind. Check out Bob James & Earl Klugh on Cool as they get together again with impressive results.

I am surprised that no-one has commented on this gem of a CD. I have been a jazz fan for 20 years, and with the new focus on 'smooth jazz', I am amazed that this CD has not a resurgence in popularity. Oh well, anyway, it is fantastic - I think of it more as a staple in one's jazz collection. If you don't have it, GET IT NOW! These guys are vets of jazz, and they put down some of the greatest here - check out their other ones (James/Klugh) as well - they are great - but I guess I felt that the magic was in this one as opposed to the other (very good mind you) CD's.

I'm 42 years old. This album came out when I was in my teens. You'd figure with time, a persons tastes change and new sounds replace old. Music like this has created a void (over the last two decades) for creative sounds that capture emotions, places and life experiences. This is still one of my all time favorites. I lost this album, and can't wait to get my hands back on it. Both Bob and Earl are masters on their own. Put them together, and you have a Masterpiece. Unlike many artists who subtly compete during their performances, these guys complement each other. One on One equals 10!!!

We have a local commercial Jazz station in NYC (CD 101.9) and when it first came on the air, I think they played this CD a hundred times a week. Good choice, I thought. If there ever was a contest to define a perfect album, this CD would probably make the final four. Every tune is smooth, tight and played perfectly by two jazz masters - James and Kluge. I think that if I was only allowed to have 10 CDs, this would be one, along with Time Out and Kind of Blue. You can put this CD on and play it right through - no bad cuts here. Buy it, you'll love it.

Of course, everyone that really likes this album is going to give it 5 stars. Why? Because it's a great album! What I don't understand is when a person who doesn't like a particular style or genre of music feels the need to judge an an album based on his (or her) taste IN that style of music. Honestly, I think that's just plain ignorance! I can't stand Michael Bolton or Kenny G, so what would be the point in me listening to their latest disc and then reviewing it, saying it sucks and giving it one star? If you hated jazz of any kind, you'd say Miles Davis and John Coltrane suck. I believe people should have a remote knowledge of what they're judging first and then base those judgements more on the merits of the musicians, the execution of the material, the quality of the recording, etc. If I were a hardcore vegetarian, I wouldn't go to the best steakhouse in town and then shout for the whole world to hear, "this is the worst restaurant ever!" That would be stupid. Then again, that's just MY opinion!

I was looking all over this album, particularly for the song "I'll never see you smile again." I could not find the song on iTunes; the album is not available on iTunes, even though it seems every other Earl Klugh and Bob James album is on iTunes. So was thrilled to find this on Amazon. Earl Klugh and Bob James both have a melodic style that is very pretty without being overly sweet. This album has withstood the test of time. It's still a great jazz album worth listening to.
