5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Boating Resource
This is an excellent book. It not only contains fantastic recipes, but also has excellent information for every galley -- on your boat, rv, or in the home!

I'm off on a 2 week sailing adventure in the Caribbean (my 1st!) and bought this book so I'd be of some use in the galley. The book was originally written for campers/backpackers. The forward has been re-written to include stove types and cooking techniques on a boat. However, other than the forward, I assume none of the recipes have been changed from the original version as there are no fish recipes! There is a cooking chart at the front of the book that gives cooking times for fish and shellfish but among the recipes there is not a single seafood recipe. Several of the recipes could probably be re-worked to use fish instead of poultry or beef but the author offers no suggestions on how to do this. Now, as a newcomer to the sailing world, perhaps I am naïve but I'm expecting fish to be a major food source on this trip. Even near shore I expect we will find it easier to purchase seafood than Cornish game hens. The recipes that are in the book look yummy but I sure won't be taking this book on our trip.

It is a very useful book not only for those who are cruising on a boat but also for others from those who are traveling light on a motorcycle or on foot to tight budget students.

.
I bought this book to get some ideas about setting up a galley for camping and RV trips with my ex and her boys. And we used to try out the recipes at home....actually, we never did try any of these on the road. Hmmm.

Well, I am sure they would work...

Anyway, this is a great book for setting up small galley and throwing down some serious chow. The recipes and the prep recommendations work for asphalt sailors as well as the deep-water folks....except you get to stop and pickup anything you forgot.

If you need a recommendation for your "ONE-PAN". I like:Lodge Logic 3-Quart Pre-Seasoned Chicken Fryer. Ya' just ca't beat cast iron cookware.

It was interesting to learn how much you can cook with one burner. As he said it takes time and patience. You can't cook a quick meal. His suggestion of going out to eat when possible was also much appreciated.

Haven't has much opportunity to review in depth, but the book seems to contain the information as expected and is presented OK.
