Book Description

January 3, 2006
Luffy and crew must contend with "Saw-Tooth" Arlong and his nasty Fish Man pirates. Arlong's pirates specialize in using mafia tactics to squeeze the lifeblood from innocent villagers. Needless to say, it comes as a big surprise to everyone that pirate-hating Nami is actually a member of Arlong's crew! Always incredulous, Luffy won't believe anything until he's had a nap and a good meal. In the interim, however, Luffy's crew meets up with Nojiko, Nami's tangerine-growing sister, and the residents of Coco Village. They reveal Nami's tragic pact with Arlong and her dreams for the future. Will Luffy and crew step in to help out Coco Village and their resident pirate Nami?

Eiichiro Oda debuted in WEEKLY SHONEN JUMP in 1997 as a comic creator and artist with ONE PIECE. More About the Author

Eiichiro Oda began his manga career at the age of 17, when his one-shot cowboy manga Wanted! won second place in the coveted Tezuka manga awards. 5.0 out of 5 stars Kudos to Viz, April 5, 2006

This review is from: One Piece, Vol. 9: Tears (Paperback)
I know not everyone is pleased with Viz's One Piece translating efforts, but I'm very happy that they've stayed true to the original story and not caved in to random and pointless edits like the 4Kids tv version. Nami's full backstory is in this volume, and it's the most powerful and emotional moment in the series thus far. This (and volume 10) are where One Piece make the transition from good to great.

A strong recommendation, hope Viz starts putting out volumes faster.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best book in the One Piece series..., May 3, 2011
This review is from: One Piece, Vol. 9: Tears (Paperback)
ive read this book so much that the cover and pages are starting to fall off...ive had to tape it endlessly! anyways, its horribly sad and lets you see the softer, more emotional part of the one piece manga and tells one of the best past stories of any character, this book is one of the only books ive ever read thats made me cry...they gave it a good title...tears.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great manga, great story., October 1, 2010

This review is from: One Piece, Vol. 9: Tears (Paperback)
This is a book from the manga series One Piece, about a boy who sets off on his dream of becoming King of the Pirates. Although in the first three books I wasn't too impressed with the art but in this book we really seem to get into the flow of things and a little bit more creative, particularly with the Fish-men drawings. From a story standpoint this book is when the series really starts to get interesting with Nami turning out to be a good guy after all. A truly funny/ comedic series.
Pandaman is easy to find in this book while not so much in some of the others. I was disappointed to find out that Zoro is called Zolo but I got used to it after a while.
A really good story for people 8 and up. (there is a little violence but no language)
