This review is from: One Plus One Volume 1 (Paperback)
Another great tale of people looking to make a connection only this time connections are made with all the wrong people. The main character David Coulson is an enigma, an enforcer of some sort. Perhaps a conduit would be a more appropriate analogy. He helps the wrong people meet their own end. Who is Coulson and how does he know these people? From where does his information come? And who is the girl Eddie ("the bad guy") cheats on his pregnant girlfriend with? How is she connected to Coulson (an epilogue flashback helps with this)? And what about poor Leonard who quickly befriends Coulson? This tale is a gripping page-turner that could only have been delivered as an illustrated novel. The nuances could never have been appropriately rendered in words alone. The drawing leaves a bit to be desired, though, as the figures are clunkily drawn; they remind me of the stilted flat figures found in paintings by Alex Katz and Brian Calvin, but eventually that feeling fades. I am very anxious for the next volume to come out. Definitely a good buy!
