5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best albums of a competitive 2002, June 18, 2005
By MJD (Colorado, USA) - See all my reviews
2002 was one of the top years in terms of overall song quality, but Ra's "From One" is certainly among the best, perhaps the best hard rock album. I particularly enjoy the guitar rifts and Sahaj has a definite flair to his voice. I didn't even know about Ra until 2004 when I was trying to find out who did the haunting song I would later find was "Do You Call My Name."

1. Do You Call My Name- 9/10- A perfect intro with a very memorable melody that any rock fan can appreciate.

2. Rectifier- 8/10- A solid rock song that stays in the memory for a while thanks mostly to Sahaj in this one.

3. Fallen Rock Zone- 6/10- As a song, it's decent, but it always makes me laugh. Not only the lyrics, but when Sahaj rolls his r in "preying," that's great too.

4. Only- 9/10- Another remarkable song that's comparable to Rectifier.

5. On My Side- 10/10- Simply the best song on the album. Awesome rift, along with a haunting instrument during the chorus. Very dramatic song that could have hit #1 in the rock charts (you could even get the pop stations to play this one too) if it had gotten the exposure.

6. Violator- 5/10- My least favorite song. Not bad, but it's probably the most shaky lyrics-wise and more forgettable.

7. I Believe- 10/10- The second best track, with an impeccable guitar rift in the chorus and a solid vocal.

8. Parole- 8/10- Probably the hardest rock song. Catchy and good lyrics.

9. High Sensitivity- 6/10- Strange song that I don't mind other than a rather cheesy chorus.

10. Skorn- 7/10- Again, the Dear John beginning made me laugh. The Egyptian style melody and strong bass make it worth listening to.

11. Walking and Thinking- 7/10- A lighter song that's pretty good. Typically I like the light stuff, but this doesn't have that really memorable chorus. Good lyrics though.

12. Sky- 8/10- This song is pure rock with a fantastic guitar solo.

Even my least favorite tracks on this one are still at or above average, which is rare for a debut. Ra has a great future in front of them and their second album should get a lot more exposure than this one.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Different Direction , October 12, 2005
When I first bought this CD, I have to admit that I just bought it because I thought the cover artwork was kinda cool. I buy music on the spur of the moment am always kinda hoping that I can find the salvation of rock music. I think I found it. This CD is a awkwardly experimantal blend of rytham and feeling. The vocalist is very expressive and the guitar riffs are amazing. The bass player is audible (which doesn't happen too often any more) and there are guitar solos. Guitar solos! That's almost unheard of in metal anymore. (...) Anyways, the tracks progress in a very melodic method with a flow and purpose. They are as follows:

1. Do you Call My Name: the opening of the album rates a 4/5.

2. Rectifier: The second track calls for change and a 5/5.

3. Fallen Rock Zone: Weird and interesting lyrics. Good music though, but the song still rates only a 2/5

4. Only: One of my favorites about losing control of yourself after a terrible end of a relationship and/or friendship. Gets an overall 5/5

5. On My Side: song about being alone with no one to care and no way out. Music and lyrics are both excellent and get another 5/5 for Ra.

6. Violater: this song is okay. Gets a 3/5

7. I Believe: Song about religous convictions and the way the world should be. Good song deserving a 4/5.

8. Parole: Violent song about bleeding your ex after you get out of prison. really messed up and only gets a 1/5.

9. High Sensitivity: an okay track. Gets a 3/5.

10. Skorn: A song about the pain you feel after someone you love leaves and didn't feel the way you thought they did. Also covers the anger felt in this situation. Excellent music and lyrics deserving a 5/5.

11. Walking and Thinking: This song is pretty much a spacer between Skorn and the last track. Isn't the best but still gets a 3/5.

12. Sky: This is it. The one that stands out above the rest. The song of the album. This one is my personal favorite. It is musically amazing. It is lyrically moving. The vocal sound is very painfully amazing. If possible I would give this song a 10/5 but I can only give it a 5/5.

There's my report on Ra's From One. If you like it then you're gonna be really disappointed with their second album Duality. But anyway, this one is amazing. Pick it up and at least try it out. If you don't like it send it to me because one of my friends scraped (not scratched, but scraped) the CD and it doesn't play the good songs at the end anymore. Anyways, these guys are also good live so go see them. I want to know if this review helped you at all. See ya.

5.0 out of 5 stars ra rocks-- end of story, August 9, 2003
By UvBeenBeatn (NY United States) - See all my reviews
this is what music needs today... more bands like Ra that can blend different genres of music into one fantastic album. This cd will get you thinking as well as jamming. Soja (or something) is the bands lead singer and has caught everyone's attension with his outstanding vocals.

"Do You Call My Name", the albums opening track, is a power driven adrenalin pumping song that will get your day going. 5/5

"Rectifier" is another brilliant song that is one of my favs. 5/5

"Fallen Rock Zone" is kind of a funny song if you listen to the lyrics. good, but not one i like a whole lot. 3/5

"Only" is my favorite song on this cd, good riffs and everything. 5/5

"On my side" is another good song thats worth a listen. 4/5

"Violater" good. 4/5

"I Believe" also good. 4/5

"Parole" is another one of my favorites. 5/5

"High sensitivity" i like how the end of track 8 runs smoothly into this one. 4/5

"Skorn" is a good hard song. 4/5

"Walking and thinking" is a beatiful song that kind of makes you think. 5/5

"Sky" is a fabolus closing for the album and really shows off the singers vocals. my second favorite. 5/5

all in all this cd is a must buy for any music fan. there is a little something for everyone in here, and you will not be dissapointed. The only time you'll be finding yourself hitting the skip button is when you are just going to your favorite song. This is one of those that you can play all the way through
