5.0 out of 5 stars A hands on book for Christian dating
This is a great follow up book to The 10 Commandments of Dating. As a Christian, what I appreciate about this book is its healthy balance between following the will of God in the dating world and accepting personal responsibility for who we end up with as a mate. There has to be more to finding a soul mate than "you'll just know." This book gives concrete points...

1.0 out of 5 stars Spiritually Lacking
As a Christian reading this book, I found what Biblical truth it contained to be so watered down I thought I was reading a secular book. The One should more properly be marketed as a book on dating written for non-Christians. Advice in the critical area of mate selection for the Christian single must be Spirit-led and Spirit-filled. However, this book references very...

5.0 out of 5 stars A hands on book for Christian dating, August 9, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: The One: A Realistic Guide To Choosing Your Soul Mate (Paperback)
This is a great follow up book to The 10 Commandments of Dating. As a Christian, what I appreciate about this book is its healthy balance between following the will of God in the dating world and accepting personal responsibility for who we end up with as a mate. There has to be more to finding a soul mate than "you'll just know." This book gives concrete points to see if you and your boyfriend/girlfriend are on the right track. I think the reason so many people may end up with broken relationships is that they get carried away by all of the emotion in the beginning of a relationship and then no longer use their brain on down the line. Once things get more involved and complicated - they tend to ignore things because they are "in love."

The authors give a fresh approach with a solid biblical foundation in these crazy days of navigating through the dating world. I appreciate their honesty and reality when dealing with singles in today's society. The church often does not address "dating" and this book is a much needed resource.

5.0 out of 5 stars If Only I had read this book a few years ago!, August 9, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: The One: A Realistic Guide To Choosing Your Soul Mate (Paperback)
This book was full of great advice I wish I would have known years ago. Especially helpful was the Myths that we really do believe. It helped to realize my flawed thinking and how I had made poor decisions in the past even though I would consider myself fairly wise and responsible. I dont think I read the same book as the last reviewer. Actually, I dont think he/she read much or any of it at all. I am definitely passing this one on to all my single friends!

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Good, January 9, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: The One: A Realistic Guide To Choosing Your Soul Mate (Paperback)
I found this book to be both practical and grounded in Biblical truth. The fact of the matter is that the Bible does not advocate a specific method of spouse-hunting (there is not a single example of courtship anywhere in Scripture, it didn't even occur until the 1400's. The rule of Biblical times was arranged marriage, which obviously doesn't apply very easily to modern times). Before you kiss dating goodbye, I suggest reading this book (and The Bible, of course, as the ultimate authority).

If you are in the process of meeting the love of your life, or if you have already met somebody, this is an excellent book to help you make the right choice or to find out if the man you are dating is the one and how to keep him.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great relationship book by great relationship authors, January 25, 2008
This is another gem of a dating/marriage book from Christian-relationship gurus Sam Adams and Ben Young. I read this book in 2003 and at that moment, was convinced to make a commitment follow its advice.

...And I'm proud to announce that it has paid off dearly as I've met a wonderful woman who hits all the right "zones" (as you'll read about in the book). We'll be getting married in 2008, and I have in no small part, the wisdom from "The One" to thank.

If you read this book (and The Ten Commandments of Dating) and follow the advice found inside, you'll find yourself much better off in the world of relationships.

4.0 out of 5 stars satistified, June 7, 2011

Although I wish the authors had used Scriptures from the Bible more.. overall the book was helpful in many realistic ways. I felt as though the authors were straightforward with absolutely no sugar coating when it comes to dating.

5.0 out of 5 stars Finally some balance and wisdom!, March 13, 2011
I cannot tell you the frustrations that I have with so many in the church and there concept of mate selection. Mate selection is a choice, one that can only be made through much TIME and discovery. These guys nail this subject better than anyone to date. Many have embraced "The One" concept only to take the "I must have missed it" concept a short time after they get married.
Embracing the idea that "God is my Matchmaker" and that there is only "one" predetermined person for you is reckless and haphazard. In a perfect world where we all hear from God 100% of the time that would be great. But "we know in part and see in part" the bible says. People that are in the early stages of a relationship could not truly hear God through a loudspeaker. When your emotions are elevated your spiritual awareness is clouded.
If you have embraced this idea that God has "One" person for you in the whole world..Please BUY THIS BOOK!
This book would have saved me a lot of pain in my past.
Time and Discovery!...Time and Discovery!

GREAT BOOK!

5.0 out of 5 stars The One: A Realistic Guide To Choosing Your Soul Mate, February 29, 2008

I purchased "The One: A realistic Guide to Choosing Your Soul Mate," for my signifcant other at her request. She had borrowed a copy from a friend and decided that she needed her own copy as what she was learning applied directly to things she could do to improve her life. Though I have not yet read the book myself, I have had enough passages reas to me to realize that this book has the power to truly influence and perhaps changes one's life for the better.
My friend and I have both gone through divorces that have impacted us in many ways. We found each other and wish to build upon what we have discovered about ourselves and each other. This book provides some clear ways to rediscover a self that may be surpressed, that needs uplifting and inspiring. I would recommend it to anyone feeling a need to reconnect with self and others.
