The only set back is that the glue and pages come undone easily!

It looks very well made. i like that you can write your own dates in.

This is not sketch quality paper, it should be a thicker weight.

The idea of the journal itself is great, the layout is beautiful as is the binding... my problem with this journal is the quality of the paper used. This is not sketch quality paper, it should be a thicker weight. It's super thin and you can see the drawings from previous days strike through. It kind of defeats the purpose of having a sketch book when you it all ends up looking sloppy. I love this idea and for people who are not dedicated artists, it may work for them but for others, not so much.

I had wanted this sketch diary for longer than I can remember. Once I was able to get it, I was excited to get to create a visual chronicle of events. The idea, like I said, is really great but there is one major flaw - when you draw on the opposing page, it will transfer the pencil from the previous pages against each other making them look dirty. It's a common way to transfer images, to put down pencil on the back of a page and then trace, but when it's in a sketch book like this, unfortunately it ruins the pages previous to the one you're currently drawing on. I was really disappointed. It would be fine for ink, but the tooth and thickness of the paper aren't really made for that.

Bummer summer. I'd get a regular sketch book next time.

I received this item as a gift. I absolutely love it. Great quality..It has a few instructions, then it's mostly pages divided into two parts with spaces on each to fill in the date. What a lovely idea.

Ordered this as a gift for a friend... he loved it! (But I should note, that he sent me a picture of it when he opened it... and it is BLACK with red trimmed pages NOT the blue color as shown.) This didn't matter to him (since he didn't even know what it was supposed to look like) and it doesn't really matter to me... but may bother some peeps, so heads up! :)

I ordered this after reading the other reviews, so I was prepared for the thin paper. It would be easier if it was spiral bound, but this is just a very pretty, almost vintage-looking book and it's so enjoyable to use that I can get past the other issues. I agree that pencil drawings may smudge, especially if you use a lot of shading. I use mechanical pencils, extra fine point permanent markers and colored pencils in my drawings. I've used a few pages in the journal and so far there hasn't been enough smudging to bother me. I haven't had any trouble with the drawings showing through the thin paper. I think you'll love this sketchbook if you use a lighter touch and fine point drawing instruments. Be sure to read the other reviews for some suggestions on how to protect the pages from too much smudging.

I got this journal for my teen daughter who loves to draw. It looks very well made. i like that you can write your own dates in. Each page is separated with a horizontal line so the drawings will have to be a little small. It would have been better if there was no line across and the date area was off to the side so that if she wanted to draw a larger picture she could.

I love to doodle, and I'm not a serious artist, so this book is perfect for me. It's a little awkward to use since it's not spiral bound, but the book is so beautiful I don't mind. It's probably not the choice of a professional artist, but for those who like to play around with colors and pens and pencils, I think it's a fun buy!

I purchased this journal after being inspired by the "One Line a Day: A Five-Year Memory Book". I'll be starting my Visual Journal on Jan 1, 2013.

BOOK DESIGN:
It's about the size of a DVD. It has a glued binding with orange coloring on the outside of the pages. It also includes a ribbon bookmark to easily find your place. The book jacket feels sturdy and likely to stand up to 365 days of drawing.

PAGES:
Each page has 2 days on it. Each section for drawing is roughly 3" x 4". Each day is labeled starting from 1 - 365 and has a blank spot next to it for the date.

APPENDIX:
There are a few pages at the end that are full pages. They include "Things to Sketch," "Places to Sketch," "Faces to Remember," "Artists to Remember," and "Museums and Galleries to Visit."

CONCERNS:
As I mentioned earlier, the pages are glued into the binding so I'm slightly concerned that the pages may fall out from constant opening/ closing of the book. If that happens I will come back and update this review.

OVERALL:
Without having started my sketches, I'm impressed by the design and layout. I think it'll be wonderful to keep me creative, engaged and focused.
