Possibly the best rock CD of the summer.,
By Muzikman (Charlotte, NC, USA) - See all my reviews

Take some Staind, throw in a little bit of Fuel, and add just a pinch of 3 Doors Down, and you get a little band from Myrtle Beach, SC, called Echo 7. The reason I bring up the other three groups is because Echo 7 seems to incorporate parts of each of these groups into their music, but do it with their own musical flair. Many people have probably not heard of this group unless they have seen 3 Doors Down on tour in 2003. If so, remember that Echo 7 was their opener.Echo 7 showcases their talent extremely well on their debut album on In De Goot Recordings. They have the ability to completely change gears in the middle of a song, but also have the ability to keep the intensity in the vocals and music. Lead singer Ronnie O'Briant puts his emotions into "Once Before," and shows his range and true singing talents. The guitar riffs throughout the entire album are spectacular, and hard enough at times to run through a brick wall, such as in "Inside Out" and "Reason Why." One amazing characteristic that any music freak may have been looking for this summer is complex drum rhythms and patterns, since Staind had been known for that, and didn't include too many difficult patterns on "14 Shades of Grey." If that is what you are looking for, Echo 7 gives it up on "Inside Out", "Part of You", "One Step Away", and especially "The After." And possibly the best part of Echo 7 is their uncanny ability to find the perfect harmonies. During the entirety of this album, they show that they could make it as an a cappella group, as some of the harmonies will send chills down your spine, at least give you goosebumps. They also show that they can hit a soft spot too on the closing "Left Alone." Acoustic guitar and piano characterize this song, and make it maybe the most powerful on the album. The lyrics could say it all. "This is one fine mess I've made/There's plenty more from where that came/And when I've had enough to drink/I'll see if things still look the same/When it washes over me/I'll try my best to make believe/That I'm the same man/The same man underneath." No matter what the price you pay, it will be well worth it, because this could easily be the best rock CD that will be released ALL SUMMER of 2003. It is quickly going in to heavy rotation on most rock stations, and should quickly go into heavy rotation on your CD player!

Great Music,

Echo 7 rocks, they've worked really hard to get were they're at now, and they love what they do. If you like 3 Doors Down, Foo Fighters, Chevelle, etc., then you will love Echo 7.

I have their first CD, Trippin on Destiny, which has Masquerade on it. I love the song, Uninvited, even more. I have been a fan since I first heard Masquerade on my local radio station, in Bluefield, WV. I never had the luck to see them perform, tho. I highly recommend anything by them, tho.

It is too bad that Echo 7 is no longer together, maybe some day the guys will realize that what they had was really good and get back together. I saw them in concert w/ Cold, Finger Eleven and Lennex in Dewey Beach. They totally rocked the joint. Buy this CD and you won't be disappointed!!!!

Echo 7's demise is truly a travesty. Ronnie and Dave have at least 100 good songs left to write. This album is representative of the countless other tunes that didn't make it into the studio. These guys know what they are doing. The reason why the lead vocals sound different in some songs is because the ones Dave wrote are sung by him and Ronnie sang lead on his creations. I like that about them because it gave the show and their albums some variety. Not only are they great musicians, they are amazing people who have remained humble through the process of being on tour with their idols. Love you guys, miss you much!!!!

It's sad to see that the guys no longer are on the In De Goot Records label. I used to sell merchandise for them when they did their shows locally in Myrtle Beach. As a young teenager they really opened me up to the local music scene here in Myrtle Beach. They were really good friends to me and when this CD came out I actually bought 2. I had to, my name is in it. Too bad that I actually saw Ronnie with his wife, they now have a baby, and he couldn't even say hello to me. For being friends that long you think that he could say hello. Guess their 15 minutes of fame went to their head.

None of the other reviewers said what kind of music this is exactly so I basically just had to take a chance on it when i bought it, so I'll save you all the grief and explain what this is. The first song is an intro and then it jumps into Inside Out, a pretty heavy song and it's definitely got some catchy beats. Next up is the ever harder hitting title track One Step Away and man does this thing rock. Crunchy guitars and powerful vocals (the guy actually has a good voice *thumbs up*). Also, gotta love Part Of You, just another hard rocker. As for the rest of the cd, there's a few more rockers in there but also more than the average amount of slower songs for this type of band, which normally I wouldn't like too much, but these guys do the slower songs well also..heck for about $2 or under there's no reason any rock fan shouldn't check this out.

This is one of the better albums in the past couple of years. Had the pleasure of seeing them live when they opened for Queesnryche and was hooked. BOught the album and still listen to it to this day. It is hard enough for rock fans, the ballads are amazing and, well, it just plain rocks. I recomend it to everyone and look forward to their next release.
