Words like "overcomer" and "inspiration" are understatements for the likes of Bob Wieland. After losing both legs to a landmine in Vietnam, he returned to the United States to become a champion weight lifter, marathon runner, tri-athlete, motivational speaker, television actor and an outspoken advocate for those who have no voice: the homeless, the hungry, and the spiritually confused.

One Step at a Time is Bob Wieland's own story - the testimony of a man who overcame incredible odds because he depended on a higher power. The book is touched with tragedy and triumph, grace and determination - like the life that lived it.

The second half of the book tells the story of Bob's greatest challenge - a walk across America to raise money for the Red Cross, World Vision, and other relief organizations. Beginning from California in 1982, Bob walked - propelling himself on padded knuckles - across the entire country. Three and one half years later - and 4,900,016 steps - later, he completed his pilgrimage at the base of the Vietnam Memorial in Washington, D.C. There, he placed a wreath by the name of the man whose life he had tried to save when Bob sustained his own near-fatal injury.
