The water just runs out in about 40 seconds. I tried different bottle sizes, taping the neck of the bottles, etc. I've thrown away the cones. Now I just get a water bottle, poke a tiny hole in the bottom and balance the bottle near the plant. I could not return the item and to add insult to injury, the cones are NOT recyclable.

I am extremely disappointed in this self watering device. The water immediately runs out of the bottle...and yes, I did have the spike pushed below the level of the soil. I would not endorse this product to anyone!! Buy the terra cotta type...more money, but they work!

I also bought a set of these from Harbor Freight; at first they worked as advertixed and with the old 2 liter bottles they still do. But the new bottles seem to ne just a triffle smaller in diameter so the water leaks out from the mouth of the cone. I put electical tape around the end of the new bottles; they work better. They are not plant sitters or plant minders. They deliever water at the root level. I have clay soil so I leave all four holes open; if I had sandy soil I would cover three. I have used them for planting small trees (1-2 ft high), transplanting buffulo grass plugs and tomato and pepper plants. They work reasonably
