Book Description

From New York Times and USA Today Bestselling Author, Cali MacKay...

Riley Carter’s never found anyone who could live up to her first love, Thorsen Black. So imagine her surprise when, twelve years later, he shows up at the unique and quirky inn she manages on Mermaid Isle, off the coast of Maine. The sweet, gangly teen has matured into a sexy and handsome man, leaving her heart desperate to pick up where they left off.

It’s impossible for her to ignore the way her body instantly reacts to his touch and he's just the distraction she needs when she finds out the owners of the Siren Song Inn are selling it to Holt Enterprises. Holt only has eyes on the bottom line and Riley knows they’ll strip the inn of everything that makes it special, ruining not only the Siren, but devastating the island economy.

While fighting to save her beloved inn, Riley falls in love with Thorsen all over again. But when she’s faced with the real reason Thorsen’s on the island and his unbearable betrayal, will she be able to save the inn and her chance at true happiness?

*** This novel contains a Happily Ever After ending. Due to the adult language and explicit sex scenes, this book is for adults only.***

3.0 out of 5 stars Too much sex July 15, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I'm not a prude but the story line could have been enhanced or "plumped" a bit and less sex. I was quite put off by nearly every couple of pages a sex scene was being played out. It could have been such a good story with more about the people who used the Inn.

1.0 out of 5 stars Didn't even bother to finish January 6, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I somewhat enjoyed the authors other works (typical romace formula and what I call "beach reads") but this one fell way below what I expected. Don't bother unless you like gratiutous sex.

3.0 out of 5 stars I didn't like the h - 2.5 stars December 7, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I bought this book as a result of a teaser chapter in another book. I'm always a little sceptical about books where the main characters had been in love before but have been separated for many years. This is one where they met during Summer holidays for 2 years in a row and fell in love. Time and circumstance separated them but now they meet when he comes to stay on the island again. The H very quickly confesses his feelings for the h and he also tells her he came back because of his memories of her. So this is all well and good but when it comes to the main reason he's come to the island, he isn't honest with her. The main reason I didn't love this book is because I didn't really love the h. She wasn't a sympathetic character and lots of things she did annoyed me. She acts like she's the owner of the hotel, in that her feelings always have to be considered, in reality she's only an employee. I really didn't love her relationship with her colleague either, a bit of friends with benefits thing. I doubt I'll read more books in this series

3.0 out of 5 stars okay July 21, 2014
By Tassy
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
The basic story is good but this was really two people making love with the thin thread of a story winding through. Riley has been working at an inn in Maine for many years and is very attached to it. Along comes Eric and his company who have just made a deal to buy it. Riley doesn't know that Eric is associated with said company. Too many pages are taken up with "love" scenes. They run into many obstacles but the book does end happily. I liked Riley and her devotion to the inn.

5.0 out of 5 stars Long Lost Love Heartwarmingly Hot! May 12, 2014
By T BANEY
Format:Kindle Edition
Cali Mackay will make you fall in love with the characters in this book. I recently was introduced to her heartwarming romances. This was a wonderful story of lost love and fate returns to the sleepy inn of Siren Song. This book is one of the great romances in the Beyond Desire Collection. Meet Riley and Thorson as they try and find their way back to summer firsts.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mermaid Isle November 26, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
Riley Carter oversees Siren Inn on Mermaid Isle off the coast of Maine and has forever. She grew up on the Inn and when Thorsen Black came there as teenage it was love at first sight. Neither one had really forgotten the other one. Years latter his families company was going to buy the Inn and change it and he knew it would upset her. He wanted to go to the Island and see about it but he had to go in secret. Yup,the romance was rekindle, secrets were kept, he felt for a good cause. His mission was to right the wrongs, and make certain her Inn was kept as is and his girl remained his. This is a story of romance, pain, endurance, stranger danger, trust issues. I loved the story and can't wait to see what happens next. Great job Cali. Loved it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Start To A New Series! July 29, 2013

I've read (and very much enjoyed) Cali MacKay's modern Highlander series and was very much looking forward to
this first book in her next series. And I must say...she doesn't disappoint. She turns up the heat in this new series and brings us back to the U.S. for this sexy and engaging contemporary romance about two people who are given a second chance at love. Riley is a heroine to cheer for and I loved Thorsen. There's nothing like a hero who knows exactly what he wants, is determined to get it...and never wavers in his resolve to win the woman he loves. A wonderful and romantic read. I'm already looking forward to the next book in series.

Not nearly what I was expecting and I will not be reading anymore of this series.

First of all there were inconsistencies in this story and at times I had to ask myself: What is the real reason Thorsen came to the Island? The real reason he made the purchase? Was it really for Riley or a business decision to make more profit? Out of the blue, not seeing or hearing from Riley or she from him in twelve years 'Thorsen' all of the sudden is ready to spend millions of dollars to purchase the Inn where she works? What were the true motives? If he loved her as he says he did/does would a man let twelve years pass without a word, no contact with Riley whatsoever, no matter what job he had? All through the book we played the name game and it became tiring. What the heck was his real name anyway. And let us not forget that keeping secrets is the same as lying. Sins of omission that can cost you everything including the ones you love most.

And another very troublesome problem for me was this: If he decided he wanted to make this purchase for Riley and himself, how did he know she was single? What if he did all of this to find she was married or in a committed relationship? The plans he had for the Inn...how on earth would he have a clue that those changes would be what Riley wanted in her business plan...and they so were not. He looked none to bright.

The whole story seemed to focus on the ignorance of a very smart and educated man and what he 'claimed' he wanted to do for a woman he loved but had not seen in twelve years without a clue if said woman would even be interested. He messed that up so badly that he was made to look incapable of a sound decision. For me, it placed him in a very poor light. Made him appear dull and a bit dim in his business sense.
