5.0 out of 5 stars Satisfying each time I read it
This book is one of my all time favorites. Readers who want a book based on interesting, well-drawn characters will enjoy the story. Unlike many romances where the heroine is "feisty" (translation - she is argumentative and does stupid things), and the hero is drop dead handsome, a multi-millionaire, plus somehow has all the time in the world to interact with the heroine,...

This book is one of my all time favorites. Readers who want a book based on interesting, well-drawn characters will enjoy the story. Unlike many romances where the heroine is "feisty" (translation - she is argumentative and does stupid things), and the hero is drop dead handsome, a multi-millionaire, plus somehow has all the time in the world to interact with the heroine, these people are believable. They have interesting problems, a great cast of supporting characters, and real, not manufactured, barriers to falling in love with each other. Yet the love is clearly there, and as the reader I want to see them together. I reread this book every few years, and am reminded again what a pleasure it can be to read a well done romance. Readers who prefer lots of arguments and tons of detailed sex scenes will find this book lacking, but people who normally wouldn't like a 'romance' should find this story delightfully satisfying.

Back Cover description: Obviously Coyote, earth's mischief-maker, was afoot on the reservation, bedeviling Navaho Policeman Lucas Singer...The tiny orphan Lucas had rescued was clearly one of his own proud People, yet feisty Sloan Baron, the waif's pretty spinster aunt, claimed the boy should be hers. This maddening, white woman was already raising two of her brother's cast-off kids--yet her heart made room for one more. Lucas was grudgingly intrigued--and downright infuriated! And Coyote smiled...

Interesting to read for the information about Navaho culture. I liked the characters and the fact that they were struggling with everyday issues--food and shelter. Sloan and Lucas were two people who needed each other, but I felt her character was more honest. The issue of who should get the child could have been dealt with in the beginning of the story. This way Sloan would have made the choice to move west, and the story could have gone on from there. There is also a mystery involved, that is slow to develope, but answers questions about the dead brother's motives.
