An Excellent Challenge to Tell Others the Good News About Jesus Christ!,
By Michael Taylor "Michael Taylor" (Indian Trail NC) - See all my reviews (VINE VOICE) (TOP 500 REVIEWER) (REAL NAME)
This review is from: One Thing You Can't Do In Heaven (Paperback)
Mark Cahill has written what I think is an excellent challenge to Christians to tell others about Jesus Christ while they still have time. While there are several exhortations to accept the challenge, Cahill also writes of practical ways to share the gospel with others. The most often method is using the 10 Commandments to show how futile it is to try to earn our way into heaven and instead rely on Jesus Christ's death on the cross for our sins to provide the way for the free gift of salvation.
Among the important points covered in the book include: 1. People are hungrier for the gospel than we realize - Indeed, we seem to hear from the people who don't like Christians sharing the gospel while we miss the many who desparately want someone to talk to them about eternity. 2. Reasons why we don't witness to others - Many reasons have to do with fear of what others think and our own spiritual complacency. 3. Ask God for creative ways to share the gospel - I have done this myself and it works! 4. Don't worry about pleasing others - Jesus Christ was perfect and yet He was still nailed to the cross! How can we expect to escape persecution and hard times when we witness to others? 5. 4 thought provoking questions to ask when witnessing to others - What do you mean by that? How do you know that to be true? Where do you get your information? What if you are wrong? 6. Common questions and objections and how to overcome them - Some questions are honest while others are meant to distract us. 7. Be bold while we still have time - Compared to eternity in heaven, the temporary pain we may feel when rejected pales in comparison! All in all, an excellent challenge and encouragement to keep witnessing until we either pass from this earth or until Jesus Christ comes back for His children! Read and enjoy. Highly recommended.

Evangelism 101,

This review is from: One Thing You Can't Do in Heaven (Paperback)
This book has changed my life. I have given away several copies to a friends and more than once they have come back different. Sometimes they don't let me get the book back until they have a family member or friend read it. It just that good. This book has been circulating around campus and it has helped start a group of us who actively share our faith on a regular basis.
One of the cool things about One Thing You Can't Do in Heaven is that it is easy and fun to read. It is not written in fancy church language and many things are backed up with interesting real life examples. In other words, this book is a fast and fun read. When I talk with someone who is afraid to share their faith I tell them to read the first 3 chapters of this book. After that the are almost always on fire and ready to go. You wont have any reasons not to share your faith after chapter 4. Chapter 10 has answers to frequently asked questions/objections that pre-belivers may have. Do you want to learn how to prove there is a God in 30 seconds or know how to quickly prove the Bible really is the inspired word of God? Read chapter 10. Do be warned, this book will powerfully challenge you to get out of your comfort zone. One Thing You Cant Do In Heaven is by no means comprehensive guide to evangelism. It covers in a couple of chapters things people have devoted entire lives to. If you are a seasoned evangelist there may not be much here for you, but if not, this book is a great jump-start into an exiting adventure. If you are afraid to share your faith, don't know how to share your faith, or don't know what to say, then this book is for you. I have read a lot of books in my last 18 years and few other than the Bible have effected my life as much as One Thing You Can't Do In Heaven.

Get it while it's HOT!,
By Mark 11:23 "Truth Speaker" (Desoto, Texas United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: One Thing You Can't Do in Heaven (Paperback)
Mark Cahill did a great job of reminding the Christians that witnessing is not a option--it's our duty. He shows how to explain your faith in Jesus Christ with love and according to the Bible. I battled with the how-to's and making excuses, but his book made me realize that I can't lose by sharing my faith. It showed that God rewards all effort to win the lost--whether they accept Him right then and there, or not. He also gives some great suggestions for how to answer those tough questions like "HOW CAN THERE BE A GOD WHEN THERE IS SO MUCH EVIL AND SUFFERING IN THE WORLD?". I was really inspired and you will be too!

witnessing,

This is a great book if you're interested in witnessing to others for Christ.
By the time you read this authors' ways of witnessing and how he deflates excuses for not doing so, you'll wonder why you don't do it everyday.

Mark Cahill is passionate and excited about telling people, anywhere and everywhere, about the good news of Jesus Christ. As a speaker, author, and personal evangelist, he has taken Christ's command to "go make disciples" very seriously and joyfully. This is a book that is meant to be an encouragement to other Christians to do the same. The strength of this book is in the authors passion and many stories from his own experience in sharing the gospel.
I want to be very careful in any kind of critique of a book on evangelism, especially one so heavily focused on the experiences of the author actually doing the work of an evangelist. As D.L. Moody once said to a gentleman who criticized his street preaching evangelism, "what I'm doing to share the gospel beats what you're not doing" (or something like that). I pray that God would give me the boldness and passion He has given Mark Cahill. He clearly wants people to go to heaven and not to hell, and he's doing something about it! However, I do have a few concerns with the book. The writing is a bit too stream-of-consciousness and not well organized. The author often slips into guilt or even poor theology as motivation for evangelism. For example, Cahill writes, "Jesus did His part two thousand years ago, and now it is time for you to do yours." At other times I felt that Cahill's apologetic responses were not well grounded or good arguments (for example, one of his `proofs' for the Bible being God's Word is that it's the best selling book in history). The overall thrust and motivation for evangelism is, for Cahill, to get people out of hell and into heaven... But what about God? You get reconciled to God when you embrace the gospel! Yes you get heaven and avoid hell, but even these are secondary motivations... "God is the Gospel" -John Piper. Again, let me say I respect and appreciate the work and passion of Mark Cahill. I would simply encourage him to spend some time growing deeper in his understanding of theology, apologetics, and writing ability. If you're looking for a book with these elements, I would highly recommend Evangelism and the Sovereignty of God by J.I. Packer.

Extremely practical, very motivating, very well written, and even entertaining,
This review is from: One Thing You Can't Do in Heaven (Paperback)
I know Mark personally and can tell you that not only is this book the best I've read on evangelism, but it also comes from a man who walks the talk. Bill Bright thought so, too. He did the forward for the book!
If you want to be motivated to evangelize, and enjoy doing it at the same time, this is the book for you. He teaches you how to have a conversation with anybody, and how to look for more opportunities around you. A must read!

I'm reading this book for the second time. I think it is a great book for any believer. We are called to share the Gospel and most of us are not living up to that. If you struggle at all with witnessing to others I suggest you read this book. For me, it doesn't come naturally to be bold in sharing the good news, I don't know why... Although the things in the book seem totally crazy and way out of my comfort zone, it's still what God has called us to do. It's more like how the disciples shared the Word in the New Testament. So I think this book can stretch you and bring you out of your comfort zone to be a better disciple of Jesus!

This book is absolutely the BEST book I have ever read next to the Bible! Mark Cahill is phenomenal! He has a pure heart for God and a fervency to see as many souls saved while he is here on this earth and he shares all his great witnessing tools and ideas in this book! This is a MUST READ for every born-again believer! This is one you will want to read more than once and reference often. His other book "One Heartbeat Away" is also fantastic and a great book to give to someone who is searching or who doesn't believe! Time is SHORT! We need to make use of every opportunity we have to share Jesus Christ with a lost world! AMEN to Mark Cahill for his boldness and his desire to serve and please the LORD and for writing this book! Get it and read it..you will not be disappointed!
