5.0 out of 5 stars A Grand Debut For Shahin & Sepehr!
Shahin & Sepehr are an Iranian duo living in Washington,D.C..Shahin Shahida plays guitar while Sepehr Haddad plays on keyboards.Joined and aided on this album by their small studio band as well as by Craig Dobbins from the then recently formed 3rd Force group, the album is beautifully crafted with great musical compositions that may not be complicated, but are still...

3.0 out of 5 stars The CD is an impostor of their original recording on tape...
The first time I heard 1000 Nights was on tape sold in a Persian store when the group was unheard of. Even the cover design on tape is different. The arrangement on the cassette on 1000 Nights is musically better than the CD release. I thought I bought the same exact arrangement when I bought the CD. The tempo on the tape is more fluid and a beat faster. The CD has...

Shahin & Sepehr are an Iranian duo living in Washington,D.C..Shahin Shahida plays guitar while Sepehr Haddad plays on keyboards.Joined and aided on this album by their small studio band as well as by Craig Dobbins from the then recently formed 3rd Force group, the album is beautifully crafted with great musical compositions that may not be complicated, but are still thoroughly enjoyable. You might find yourself humming these tracks after a while, because this album is,like I said before, full of great melodies and tunes. There isn't a single track that you would want to skip. The album's sound is a combination of Middle-Eastern sounds with a western rhythm, with half of the album, the first 5 tracks or so,consisting of upbeat and energetic tunes, while the latter half consists of,appropriately, more mellow and softer pieces.Highlights on the album include,"One Thousand & One Nights","Yasmine","Middle Of The Night","Mediterranean Dream","Cuban Skies","Body & Soul",and the beautiful "Natasha".Heck, the whole album is a highlight, which is an impressive feat, especially for a debut album like this one.Definitely a must-buy for collectors of New Age and Contemporary Instrumental.Highly Recommended!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Must Have Album, April 30, 2004

This album is Shahin & Sepehr's best. It is hard to classify as to style. Their work is a wonderful mixture of Jazz, Guitar, World and New Age. All instrumentals, the songs are varied, vibrant and lively. You can't turn it on and forget it. I'd recommend any of their albums, but this is their best. It's one of my top 5 modern instrumental CDs., maybe number 1...

5.0 out of 5 stars It doesn't get much better than this: stimulating&enchanting, June 19, 2000

I don't even know enough about this sub-genre within new age to even comment on this in a contextual or comparative basis. But I just know that I love it, this apparent musical marriage of Latin and Middle Eastern styles. One of my most played, and playable CD's in my collection, next to some of my classical CD's. Word of mouth, and more to the point, sharing of this music should eventually make this the classic in sales that it already is in art. A desert island disc must, no matter what. Romantic, soothing, stimulating; music sure to reach the soul. Don't deny yourself! Rather than say he doesn't know what he is talking about, I'll just say I don't know what "Bethesda" is talking about. Trust me, you cannot go wrong with One Thousand And One Nights.

The arrangement on the cassette on 1000 Nights is musically better than the CD release. I thought I bought the same exact arrangement when I bought the CD. The tempo on the tape is more fluid and a beat faster. The CD has choppy arrangement as though the artists struggled to include more percussion and otherwise unnecessary distracting instruments white the tempo drags... What a letdown!

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding, innovative and exotic. Music for the Soul!, August 23, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: One Thousand & One Nights (Audio CD)
Was just introduced to Shahin & Sepehr thru a neighbor. This CD is truly innovative in its use of varied instruments and arrangements all against the magnificant quitar work of the composers. Brillant! It captures many different flavors and styles as it takes you on its journey. It is exotic in tone, but universal in language as it speaks to all who enjoy a fine musical experience!

4.0 out of 5 stars "Romantic ? - you bet"., November 11, 2003
By
Bob Shank (...sunny, warm,Tucson, Arizona...mountains away!) - See all my reviews
[...careful: definitely for LOVERS...]

Follow instructions, carefully:

- Get 'Pacific Rim' food (put it in on a plate, for cryin'
out loud - Persian is better, if it's in your home town)
- serve with some AKADAMA plum wine & candlelight
- exagerate with linen napkins and chop-sticks for your
Beloved on the living-room coffee table - with lights down
low
- (don't forget to spread the comforter on the floor in front
of the TV - you'll definitely need it later)

- put in Shahin & Sepehr, '1000 & One Nights' CD in the music
box - turn on
- eat, talk, kiss...eat, talk, touch...eat, talk, meld (you
get the picture)
- let the music FLOW through your veins
- do what comes naturally...

I've played this CD for my sweetheart/lover/wife from Chicago (believe it) 22 times in this 'exact setting' OVER THE LAST
FIVE YEARS RUNNING and I ALWAYS score. We wind up in the greatest mood next morning...coffee aromas, kisses, sleepy eyes...hungry...ready to go!

If you don't 'get' this music, get a divorce...(write me - I'll send you a quarter to 'get a life', and get on with it...). If "BODY & SOUL", or, "MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT" doesn't bring your bodies together, you definitely need to be FAR apart. Guys who 'diss' this kind of music don't have a drop of romantic blood in their veins - avoid them. This is part of the ESSENCE of romantic music in the CRADLE of the whole world - find it in yourself to appreciate the incredible artistry of these two guys - hundreds of thousands of their fans agree, you will too - give it a chance...

Relax - find a musical 'home' together with yourselves in Shahin & Sepehr, 'One Thousand & One Nights'...

If you enjoy modern jazz, this is the CD for you. It has a great mix of songs, some you'll hear on the radio, and some that should be. I highly recommend it.

I have been to the Greek Islands and everytime I put this CD in it puts me back in that place and I just dream I am on a beach in the Mediterranean somewhere peaceful. This music is absolutely beautiful and yes I do agree with the one reviewer who said this is romantic music also, perfect "mood" music if you know what I mean. Enjoy!
