This is a one of a kind recording of black music popular in the 1920's. Two of the cuts, MY MAN BLUES & KITCHEN MAN,are humorously suggestive and very entertaining. It was recorded live at the Village Gate, New York City in 1980 and the sound quality is excellent. Principal vocalists are, Topsy Chapman, Thais Clark, Sylvia Williams, and Jabbo Smith. The record liner unfortunately doesn't indicate 'who' is singing 'which' song. This LP is a keeper.

I remember listening to it for the first time in my grampa's car. He taped it because he bought the record in New Orleans back in '80. I loved the songs although I didn't understand a word of what they were saying. The album is great, but the quality of the mastering made the grooves not deep and wide enough to capture more of the warmth and feel of the performances. I think they should release it on CD or a 2LP set. This is truly a great American Music album.

Excellent recording; however, I saw the musical in New Orleans and one of the songs was missing. Too bad, I really like the song.
