5.0 out of 5 stars Works wonderfully
Customer Video Review     Length:: 0:56 Mins
I've had the one touch opener for like 2 months and love it. I use it regularly and so far haven't needed to change battery at all. It opens all cans no problem except for really small cans. I like it so well that I made this video to show all my friends my fancy amazing can opener. I also bought another one and gave it to a friend for a present. She...

3.0 out of 5 stars One Touch Can Opener
Only works part of the time. No power (just quits) to open some cans. "Eats" batteries like kids eat candy. This would be a handy dandy item if it had the power to open a can without just "powering" out. It also is very selective in the cans it likes (if it doesn't like the can, it will not work). The reverse switch to remove it from a can it doesn't like is like a...

She loves it too! My kids particularly love using it.

Other reviewers mention problems like opener quit working or else it eats up batteries. That would be frustrating, but I haven't encountered any such problems. When it works, boy does it work good!

This would be a handy dandy item if it had the power to open a can without just "powering" out. It also is very selective in the cans it likes (if it doesn't like the can, it will not work). The reverse switch to remove it from a can it doesn't like is like a real joke in the time it takes to work and then it reverses back and you have to start over again.

1.0 out of 5 stars Underpowered, leaves sharp edge on can, slow, October 28, 2006
By
I was expecting a device that cut the roll-seam of the lid, but this one cuts the can just below the lid. The resulting edge, while not razor sharp, is hazardous--in point of fact, the instructions warn, "Note: The cut edge of the can may be sharp and shoud be treated with care." contradicting the prominent "NO SHARP EDGES" claim on the packaging.

On a typical can, the opener struggles to complete its task, coming to a near stop at times. Of course this near stalling takes its toll on the battery life. It has a fixed run cycle that will run around a typical 303 can about 1-1/2 times. For large cans you just push the button to restart it for more than one cycle until it makes it all the way around.

When the batteries give out and it comes to a stop in the middle of opening a can, there is a tiny reverse button on the underside that is used to reverse its motion until you get back to the starting poin where it will release he can. There is usually enough power left in drained batteries to backup to the release point, but if the reverse button doesn't work because the batteries are completely dead or the opener is jammed, you must use a screwdrive to turn a release screw on the bottom until the opener backs up far enough to release the can--this manual release operation is challenging (and generally messy) to perform .

The cutter--a sharp edged wheel--is not removable for cleaning, so you are left to dabbing at it with a sponge or cloth (after removing the batteries).

I recommend passing up this gadget.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Must Have for Every Household, July 22, 2006
My dad gave me this can opener as a gift and I was shocked at how easy it is to use! I didn't find thr jar opener to be much help, but the can opener is everything that it claims to be. No more difficulty with electric or manual can openers. I would recommend this product to anyone looking to simplify work in the kitchen. Great product!

5.0 out of 5 stars This darned thing actually works!, March 11, 2007
Like most of us, I have fallen victim to the phenomenon of impulse buying - on line, in a store, or over the phone after seeing a compelling TV infomercial. More often than not, these purchases wind up either being returned (if they seem worth the time and trouble) , are simply thrown away or sit collecting dust in the garage or deep recesses of my closet. The reason for these sad dispositions is usually the same: they simply do NOT do what they claim. I am particularly pleased to report that this particular device - one that even sounded too good to be true when I first saw it on TV, actually works! That is to say, it does what it says it does: Opens cans easily, without causing strain on the wrist, leaves no sharp edges on the can as it makes the cut below the top lid itself and is powered by small (AA) batteries and is, thus, completely portable.

I love this kind of surprise!

My dubious expectations were reinforced when I first held it in my hand. It is small (about 6"long and 2" wide at it's widest point). I have had electric can openers five times it's size and power that did not work reliably! Further, I found it difficult to believe that 2 AA batteries could provide sufficient power to generate the torque this thing would need to do it's job. I also thought that it looked pretty vulnerable and feared dropping it for the first time.
I was delighted to be found wrong on all counts.

I have dropped it three times. Not only does it still function well, but the case never even came apart (as with many dropped small appliances); the torque created is absolutely adequate to open ANY can - and the device requires, literally, no human effort beyond that of placing it correctly on the top of a can and pushing one button. It stops itself when it is done. The original batteries, by the way, still power it fully after three months of near daily use! Did I already say I am astounded?

It is small enough to be stored on a shelf or in a drawer but not so small as to be easily lost or misplaced. It is a welcome replacement for shelf standing, plug-in electric can openers - and for the old turn-by-hand ones that my aging fingers and wrists can no longer tolerate.

I don't think you can go wrong with one of these - even if you use it only as a back-up. For the cost, it is a great value and much more reliable than most "AS Seen ON TV" products I have experienced.

1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed, September 5, 2006
By
I had seen TV commercials for this and it looked so nifty so I order one for my 92 year old mother. It only made it about 1/4 of the way around the can when it jammed. I followed the included instructions and used the reset button multiple times. It still couldn't move on. With difficulty I was able to get it off of the can, using the reset button and another trick they described in the instructions. Then I realized that, if it had taken the lid off, it would have left sharp edges at the top of the can. I had mistakenly assumed it was like those safety can openers that cut through the lid from the side and leave no sharp edges. I would rather have the sharp edges on the lid as in old-fashioned products than at the top of the can, that is if it worked. Needless to say, I returned it.

1.0 out of 5 stars Terrible can opener, October 30, 2006
This is the worse can opener I have ever bought. It has failed four out of 6 times I have used it!! When it "fails", it stops "walking around the can" and you have to locate a little screw and get a phillips head screw driver and turn that till the opener releases your can! Needless to say, I am stuck with a useless can opener and am out $20.

1.0 out of 5 stars Total Failure, September 18, 2006

Jo in PA (Pennsylvania) - See all my reviews
My 85 year old mother saw this on TV and thought it would make the chore of opening cans easier for her. I order one for her and it arrived in just a couple days. We installed fresh batteries and tried it on a regular can of fruit. It only made it about 2/3 of the way around the can and stopped. We followed the included instructions and used the reset button multiple times and tried the other procedure listed in the instructions for removing an opener with dead batteries. We tried for nearly 30 minutes to remove the opener with no success. Frustrated, I packed it up, still stuck on the can, and returned it.

This can opener is complete garbage.

Other reviews have told the story about how this thing does not work. I tried it three times, each time with new batteries, and it grunted to a stop after a millisecond.

Had to battle with the thing all three times, twisting and turning the stupid can opener to free it from its grasp on the side of the can. The seam broke and leaked juice all over the counter.

The "handy" screw to back the can opener up, was of very little use.

You are better off with a cheap electric can opener any time, or a hand crank can opener.

With this device, you might as well throw 20-bucks out on the lawn.

This piece of garbage ended up in the garbage.

Completely worthless.

DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY.

1.0 out of 5 stars Battery eater!!, January 19, 2007
I'd give this 0 stars if I could. I bought mine from QVC. It eats batteries. It opened 3 cans on a fresh set of batteries, then died while opening a can. I had to pry it off. I have arthritis so I thought this would be a godsend. Thank Gawd QVC took it back after 2 months.

HORRIBLE, DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY.
