When my mom asked me to install a manual jar opener, I mentioned a manual one would not be that helpful to her and suggested we look for an electric. As a lifetime member of The Church of Appliantology, I naturally was leaning toward the powerful and intimidating countertop Black & Decker model, but due to counter space limitations we agreed to try this little battery unit first. I was seriously skeptical, but after a few test runs I was sold. For what it does for the price, five stars. This vid was all I had time to shoot, and only on one jar. You can see it is a little slow, but relentless. The battery cover is indeed odd, but once you've done it it's no big deal- the batteries slide in slightly angled instead of parallel, maybe that's what confused folks. I doubt this opener will see daily use, so it would be difficult to gather any long-term reliability or battery life info, but after a short period with this device I am tempted to pick one up specifically for that purpose. Plus, it works well, is fun to watch, and I am discovering as I age it seems that they are indeed putting on the lids a lot tighter!

Does Not Last Past a Year,

I purchased this product in January 2008. By December (with limited use), it broke while opening an ordinary canning jar. The plastic is too thin. I called customer service. The warrantee is for 6 months. Good marketing, but bad choice for the consumer.

PICKLE JARS NO LONGER GEEZER-PROOF!,
By

This review is from: OneTouch Jar Opener (Kitchen)
For the past several years I have noticed opening new jars of pickles, jam, jelly--anything--kept getting more and more difficult. Then my wife and I saw this gadget on television, and I knew we needed to get one. Well, time slips away when you're not looking, but finally we got one, and jars in our house are no longer geezer-proof (I can say that, I am one). It works great, so great that I wanted to open every new jar in the house, but my wife said if I did I would have to go to bed without supper. But I've got to tell you, this appliance is a great addition to our kitchen. Thank you, Amazon.com!

This is the second one I have had and both broke in the same spot when opening a jar. The lastest one I bought broke on the second jar I tried to open.OneTouch Jar Opener

Had 2 of the openers. Both of them broke. One after about 6 openings. The other just after 2. No more.

One-Touch Jar Opener
This product was purchased for my 77 year old mother who has problems with arthritis. The jar opener worked as advertised and opened her jar of prepared sauce with no problem.

Great Machine except...,

This review is from: OneTouch Jar Opener (Kitchen)
This is a great machine. It's light, very functional and does almost everything as advertised. The only issue... If you leave it in the drawer and bump the on/off switch it will start it's cycle. You have to hit the button to reverse the cycle to make it stop. Otherwise it will go the whole cycle before coming to a stop. The unit is a little noisy but does the job.

One Touch Jar Opener Explodes!,
By
This review is from: OneTouch Jar Opener (Kitchen)
I bought this maybe 6 months ago. I doubt I used 12 times during that period. It worked well when I did use it - until last week I tried to use it. It would not stop putting pressure on the lid after it had loosened the lid, and made a loud noise as it kept trying to press more. I tried to take off to stop it. I couldn't. All of a sudden, it broke all to pieces - exploded! The plastic arms broke off. I looked on line thinking maybe I could find parts or something to repair - no luck!!OneTouch Jar Opener

Center carefully on the jar lid,

I am buying my third One Touch Jar Opener. I have arthritis and I consider this a kitchen necessity, although I have had two that broke. I consider the breakage my fault, as I did not take the trouble to be sure the opener was exactly centered on the jar lid, so it could not get an even grip on the jar before it started turning. This gave uneven leverage and one of the grips broke, the same both times. Stronger plastic might be the answer, but I still think it is worth the price. Each opened many jars successfully.
