CONTROL SOLUTION NO LONGER INCLUDED,
By Glassy Raven (Blue Ridge Mtns, SC USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: One Touch UltraMini System Diabetes Kit - 1 Blue (Health and Beauty)
We haven't used it yet, but it was shipped promptly and looks like a neat little kit. Despite the product description, control solution is NOT included. The customer service rep told us they stopped including it in the kit because the control solution tended to go out of date occasionally (read that as the shelf life of the control solution limited the shelf life of the kit). So, you might want to order the control solution, too. Also, if color's important, you might want to double-check with the vendor, because our vendor informed us that there was only one type of Ultra Mini -- ours was black (which was fine with us -- we just ordered the blue because it was the least expensive one). He/she might not know that they come in colors, or the kits only come in black -- who knows? It comes in a little black zip-up case that includes their little lancing device and a little plastic vial for the strips -- with lancets and strips (10 ea) -- and measures about 3" x 5.5" x 1.5" filled. The instructions are very precise, and sampling technique seems to be very important, so I can understand why some folks could get frustrated. We'll have to see how the results look, but it seems to be well made, and the size is convenient -- and ours has the 500 reading memory. As for what test strips to use -- the instructions just mention One Touch Ultra, and that only indirectly. There's no bold print or subsection saying USE ONLY XZY STRIPS. If you plan to order a supply of strips, you might want to check what your insurance covers, first -- if that's a factor. If you have any specific questions about test strip compatibility, you might want to phone the OneTouch Cust. Service # at 1-800-227-8862.

Outdated and behind the times,
This review is from: One Touch UltraMini System Diabetes Kit - 1 Blue (Health and Beauty)
Was just forced by insurance to switch to One Touch from Freestyle, had to buy all new strips, and all new lancets because they have these so called special types. Special because they supposedly hurt less. Of course, this testing system only allows testing on fingers - which hurts no matter what lancet you use. I miss my freestyle testing on my forearm! This meter is not all that small just skinnier, its long and awkward. I asked for blue got silver. it doesn't have a light and if you don't give it a ton of blood it will error out. I MISS MY FREESTYLE! This is such an outdated, behind the times system, I can't believe One Touch is still allowed to make meters. I also don't think the readings are all that accurate either. Its way off from my Dexcom meter.

Maybe I should have read the description before purchasing. I wasn't expecting the Delica lancet. I don't prescribe to that type lancet, so now I will have to change my prescription after I get rid of the three hundred or so lancets I have. Incidentally, I will now need to go through the trouble of finding another lancet device. They aren't cheap.
