Book Description

October 1, 1998

In an age of rampant corruption and violence, Richard "Bo" Dietl was the strongest cop on New York's meanest streets -- and he did things his way, no holds barred. In fifteen years he made over 1,400 felony arrests compared to the average cop's career total of 180. But after 75 medals and awards, and countless brushes with death, he broke the city's most notorious case -- the Harlem convent rape -- and faced a blue wall of police department resentments and politics. He knew his time was coming to an end.
The Bo Dietl Story
From his rookie days to the dangerous work on the police decoy unit to his moonlighting as a bodyguard for Arab sheiks, this is the true story of the maverick cop who made the busts, the headlines and the controversies. Now Bo Dietl tells what it's really like inside the raw and deadly world of a big-city cop -- and how one man became a legend from the station house to the streets.

About the Author

Never content to just take it easy, Bo retired from the NYPD in 1985, to start an investigation and security firm, Beau Dietl Associates (BDA). Specializing in corporate investigations for major international companies, BDA has grown to become one of the largest international agencies with its worldwide headquarters located in the historical News Building at 220 E. 42nd Street in New York City.

While serving as an Executive Producer for his major motion picture One Tough Cop, Bo developed a love for the movie business. Soon after, he started his own production company, How Good Is This Production Company, with his partner Steven Witkoff, the megadeveloper of The Witkoff Group. The Production Company is currently working on several projects.

As a father, Bo has always been deeply concerned about children's issues. Accordingly, Bo has been the driving force behind the computer software product, One Tough Computer Cop, developed in conjunction with Computer Concepts, Corp. of Bohemia, N.Y. This software allows parents to monitor their children's activities on the Internet.

Bo, being an entrepreneur at heart, has now expanded into the real estate industry. Also in partnership with Steven Witkoff, Bo has an ownership interest in several major buildings located in metropolitan areas around the United States.

5.0 out of 5 stars the best un-intentionally hysterical book ever, May 10, 1999

This review is from: One Tough Cop: The Bo Dietl Story (Mass Market Paperback)
At best, Bo is the funniest cop since Stallone in Cobra. At worst, he demeans our profession by painting us as loutish brutes who shrink at the sight of his midget ass. Bo Dietl is no representative of policemen. He is an embarrassment. We actually aren't scared of bad guys, we love our families, and when we take the Job we tend to relinquish our ties to ORGANIZED CRIME. Bo has done nothing that every other cop who wears the badge hasn't done before, He only loves telling you about it, be it fiction or fantasy. The latter mostly. But, If you want to laugh harder than you have in your life, read this idiot's autobiography, it will kill you

2.0 out of 5 stars The author has definately overblown his accomplishments, February 3, 1999

This review is from: One Tough Cop: The Bo Dietl Story (Mass Market Paperback)
Although I do believe that Mr Dietl was a very brave and successful police officer in no way can all of his story be accepted as factual. A number of the confrontations that occured, ie taking on four individuals, is far fetched. Having grown up in a tough neighborhood in New York I have first hand knowledge of how tough the streets can be, sorry, no way some of these incidents occured as reported. Taken as part fantsy and ego building for Mr Dietl, the book is not bad, taken as true fact - don't think so.

1.0 out of 5 stars An illiterate tragic comedy..., August 4, 2000

This review is from: One Tough Cop: The Bo Dietl Story (Mass Market Paperback)
Ah glory days, how they do pass one by... Sadly, Mr. Dietl cannot come to grips with the end of a career so highly embellished and exaggerated that it comes off as a combination of " The Naked Gun " and " Dirty Harry "

Having seen Mr. Dietl on several television talk shows, I am not surprised at the boorish, yet self serving environment in this " book". Mr. Dietl dishonors the police profession, not by his actions on the job, but his behavior after leaving it and this publication is a perfect example.

For shame, Bo--grow up and face reality. Tell your highly dubious tales on a barstool while drinking some cheap blended whiskey and a Schaefer back. Let the real cops live in peace.
