Lovely, earth-friendly little book,
This review is from: One Tree (Green Start) (Hardcover)
Regardless of your level of environmental consciousness, you'll love this book for your baby or toddler. It's a simple story about the lifecycle of a tree and its companions in the meadow, with lively illustrations and a sturdy construction -- key for those babies who like to chew on books (good to know my infant isn't ingesting toxic ink with each bite). Made with recycled materials, too.

I own several from this series, and they are all great. My daughter's favorite is Animals Everywhere. The drawings are very detailed and she spends a long time examining them. Like that the message is about nature and conservation. Great books!

I absolutely love these books! They take complex environmental philosophies and shape them into concepts that young minds can easily grasp. The pictures are cute and the pages are thick enough that my child can't rip them. A great buy for the price.

Children today are keenly aware of environmental issues, of the virtue and value of 'living green'. To that point, Innovative Kids has newly published a four titles series of environmentally friendly board books for preschool children ages 3 to 6 that are printed on 98% recycled paper and utilize soy-based inks exclusively. The simply 'kid friendly' stories written by Leslie Bockol are very nicely illustrated by Jillian Phillips and include "Baby Animals"; "In The Garden"; "The Five Senses"; and "One Tree". Each little 'kid sized' book includes a 'Parent Page' with easy, everyday, thematically appropriate tips on protecting endangered animals, gardening tips and recipes, keeping nature beautiful, and protecting the forests. Although each titles is available separately, families, schools, day-care centers, and community libraries should acquire all four titles in this outstanding series for the benefit of young, environmentally aware kids -- and the parents who are seeking to instill those values in their children.

There is a meaningful and instructive lesson in this book, but it just doesn't flow well as a story - more matter-of-fact statements of what happens. Much different than my experience with "The Five Senses," another Green Start book. Maybe this is more appropriate for an older child. My daughter is 1 and this is not as enjoyable for her, and I don't enjoy reading it as much!Book construction is great - love the ink and illustrations as with the other books. |
