5.0 out of 5 stars A must have for ethnic music lovers
I think people usually buy an album for only one or two hit pieces but not this one. You'll find 10 perfect examples of Turkish culture. "I love you" is a very good example of Turkish Art Music, "wildflower" is folk music from central Anatolia, "Ara'ya" will take you to highlands at eastern Anatolia, "Manhem", "One Truth"...

2.0 out of 5 stars Very Disappointing CD From A Usually Great Artist
I am a big fan of Omar Faruk Tekbilek. His recording with Brian Keane 'Beyond The Sky'is the finest Middle Eastern instrumental recording ever made that I am aware of. After so many great CDs like 'FireDance',' Beyond The Sky',' Mystical Garden', and 'Crescent Moon', this CD is a major let down. "I love you" is a very good example of Turkish Art Music, "wildflower" is folk music from central Anatolia, "Ara'ya" will take you to highlands at eastern Anatolia, "Manhem", "One Truth" and "Sufi" will take you to another world of sufism with incredible sound of ney; with "Istanbul" you'll go shopping at covered bazaar and have a boat trip on the goldern horn.

take this trip to Turkey...

Turkish instruments have always added an extraordinary spirit to the world music. O.F. Tekbilek is one of the most powerful performers to spread this gift around.
Especially track 1 and 2 are fascinating.I highly recommend this album to the ones who enjoy listening enstrumentally rich musical works.

'One Truth' just doesn't possess nearly the musicianship, passion, or even recording quality of his earlier releases. I hope that Omar Faruk can rebound from this, his very worst record, and return to making the incredible genre standard setting recordings that he has made in the past. I would advise anybody considering buying this CD to spend your money more wisely on any of his other earlier CDs.

5.0 out of 5 stars Meditations on the Ottoman Empire, September 4, 2008
By
This review is from: One Truth (Audio CD)
Omar Faruk Tekbilek is a talented, virtuoso artist who has made a transition from playing Oriental themed bellydance to more traditional Sufi music and classical Turkish traditions. This album continues that journey, highlighting the beauty and grandeur of the former Ottoman Empire. The haunting melodies and driving percussions on tracks like 'I Love You,' 'Tahir Raks,' 'Roman,' and 'Ara'ya' call to mind the ancient city of Istanbul, while 'Red Skies,' which features Flamenco guitarist Adam Del Monte, drifts further west into the golden age of al-Andalus. Over all, this is excellent atmospheric music, very firmly rooted in the traditional culture of Anatolia. If you want an accessible introduction to Ottoman Turkish music, Omar Faruk Tekbilek is a great name to start with. This album, 'Suleyman the Magnificent,' 'Fire Dance' and/or 'Alif: Love Supreme' are all great CDs well worth adding to your collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent dance music, December 21, 1999

I am a belly dancer, and I found this CD to be an excellent source for dancing music (both for practice and performance); it is also wonderful to listen to. Omar Farouk is an outstanding musician, and his talent really shows on this CD.

I heard this cd in a coffee house some time ago and enjoyed it so much, I asked the waitress the name of the artist. This is the first music of this type I've purchased and when I read the reviews, I hesitated on chosing this particular cd but finally bought it remembering how much I enjoyed it that day. I couldn't be more pleased with my purchase. Also bought Mystical Garden which I'm enjoying as well.

4.0 out of 5 stars I Love You, November 17, 2002

This review is from: One Truth (Audio CD)
Basically track number 2 gets 5 stars & the rest 3 .... so it's a 4 star average cos that 1 track is so-o-o special ....once in a while, a piece of music hits you as an offering...almost spiritual in its throbbing sincerity & quiet simplicity ....a recommendation for those who like the Kanoon instrument ... which I love.

2.0 out of 5 stars A good CD but too many lyrics, October 11, 1999
This review is from: One Truth (Audio CD)
With no doubt, Omar is one of the best musician for the true middle eastern music. He makes music that is so wonderful to anyone to listen regardless from what region in the world the listener from. Unfortunately, this CD contains too many songs with lyrics. I enjoy the sound of relaxing and touching music, but when I hear lyrics that I don't understand, I try to ignore or just skip it. This CD I ended up listening to one piece only over and over "One Truth". It does have lyric, but in English and it is worth buying the CD. Other songs are ok.
