Florida Swings, March 30, 2000
This review is from: One Two Three Jump (Audio CD)
The first point I would like to make is the track listing. The one listed here at AMAZON is incorrect. The CD has ten tracks total not the four or five listed above. Here is the listing: 1.Big Beat Blast Off 2. Go To Reno 3. Big Impression 4. Five Ten Fifteen Hours 5. Take You Home 6. 1-2-3 Jump 7. Dig That Crazy Chick 8. Dancin' Little Baby 9. Nuff of that Stuff 10. Revenge of the Rocket Men
Now on to the review... Rocket 88 are a great combo of swing, jump-blues, and rockabilly. This is their second release and well worth the purchase. This CD found them at a strange period as they were changing lead vocalist. This album features the bass player and guitarist trading off on vocal duties and their new lead singer on Nuff of that Stuff. (That's why there are three different vocals on the album.) The players on this album are solid. The songs well crafted, the few covers are not your typical fare of jump-swing covers. Rocket 88 has been a mainstay of the Florida retro-music scene. With Rocket 88, and their side projects Blue Flame Combo and the Vipers.
They have since reformed as a straight Rockabilly Combo (Upright, guitar, organ, drums) and still rock. If you can find their first release or their newest one I recommend you check them out. As well as the Blue Flame Combo CD.

Rocket 88 brings Swing to life here in the Orlando area, and their CD 1 2 3 Jump definetely highlights their potential.
