I am so glad I found this book. As a first time parent it gave me a context for addressing specific toddler behaviors in a healthful and respectful manner for both myself and my child. The short, clear chapters on each subject enabled me to (a) finish the book and (b) refresh my memory quickly when new behaviors presented themselves. This book is a confidence builder for any parent. My oldest child is now 8 and I am still using the "respectful" techniques I learned from this book.

This book is a wonderful way to look at daily dealings with toddlers and learn how to make your life as a parent easier. I work at a day care in the toddler room and this book helped me to look at our toddlers in a new way. By being aware of their development and stages of life I was better able to learn from them.

This book is a small but powerful tool for parents! I recommend reading it even before your children hit the "toddler years" because this book put me in such a great state of mind for parenting. I was observing the way my daughter's caregiver was interacting with the toddlers in her room when my daughter was still just an infant and I was amazed and astounded by the approach and results that this caregiver reached with the "Terrible Twos". I asked her more about her philosphy and she lent me this book to read. This book still hits the heart of my current philosphy of parenting my now six year old daughter. P.S. Being a first time parent I have collected tons of parenting books-this is hands down my favorite. I often found my 11 month old frustrated with with all the house rules, diaper changes, and nap schedules that he didn't consent to or understand. This book gave be a number of useful ideas about about how talk to him about all uncomfortable feelings he was having. It also recommended ways to give him choices in daily activities and how to set bounderies in a respectful manner. Clear simple-easy to read. Highly recommended for all those parents tring to give there little ones more control over their life while keeping them safe in the process.

Toddlers are very challanging! 1,2,3...The Toddler years talks about specific toddler behaviors: biting, sleeping, toileting, tantrums, etc and gives guidelines on how to work with those behaviors while treating the kid respectfully! Read this book.

is simply the best toddler book out there. In the same vein as books such as How To Talk So Kids Will Listen (and Listen So Kids Will Talk), this book shows ways to communicate with and understand the little people in your life. I know few other books that show such respect for children and their individual process as this one. As a nanny and an aunt, I highly recommend it for all who interact with children!

This is a great book. It isn't often I find one book that so closely characterizes my child's behavior and how I can deal with it. Easy read. Very clever. Very helpful. Gives easy guidelines...Here is problem: Here is conflict: This is why the toddler has the problem: This is what you can say and do to resolve the incident. From a fan of the Sears' books this book shares the same type of philosophy. I only wish there was more. The strategies worked miracles on my 2.9 year old boy. I give this book high praise! Helped me understand my son.

As both a parent and an early childhood/parent educator, I have to say that this book continues to be the one that I recommend to parents of toddlers and that I keep revisiting when I need encouragement with my own toddler. It is clear and practical- the type of education and advice that so many of us need and want. It encouarges us to respect our children, set appropriate limits, and offer them the type of environment that will enhance their growth and development.

This is a great book which outlines very clearly, in an easy and enjoyable to read format, why respect for toddlers creates respectful children. Great examples and anecdotes. A must read.
