A Guilty Pleasure,
By BrainDrain (Oshkosh, WI USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: One Vice at a Time (Audio CD)
One of the best Krokus albums, with some of the funniest metal tunes ever. How can you not howl over silliness like "Long Stick Goes Boom," "Bad Boys, Rag Dolls" or the classic "Down The Drain" with lyrics like "My mother was a b-girl, my old man was a tramp/Some folks say they conceived me on a loading ramp." I guess life's rough over there in Switzerland!I don't take Krokus too seriously, never did. Krokus is all about goofy fun, and that's a good thing, but the band has chops, too. They sound a lot like AC/DC, but funnier. This is good rock and roll. It'll keep your head banging and put a smile on your face. Remember, folks, three stars is a good review. If all the songs were as good as the ones I've mentioned above, it would get five.

Don't Write a review if you don't know the facts,
By
This review is from: One Vice at a Time (Audio CD)
I love this album. I also love Metal Rendez-Vous and Hardware. For those misinformed individuals that claim this is acopy of AC/DC with Brian Johnson, I beg to differ. Marc Storace (Lead Singer) has sung like this prior to 1982 when this album came out. He sung like this on Metal Rendez-Vous (1979) and Hardware(1981). Of course, the first Brian Johnson (AC/DC) album (Back In Black) did not come out until 1980. So now you critics can do the math, 1979 is earlier than 1980, right? So according to your logic Brian Johnson copied Marc Storace. Yes, that is right, your observations were totally absurd. Don't review an album, based on, if it sounds similar or not to another band. Base it on the quality of the album.
Now to my review, if you like head banging rock and roll, this album is definitely there. I don't know of any Krokus album that isn't worth buying. One Vice at a Time has the hit Long Stick Goes Boom which received a lot of Radio play. But the other songs on here really rock. Great vocals and great guitar work make this one of my favorites. Also check out "The Blitz", "Headhunter" and "Alive and Screamin" , you won't be disappointed.

The Best Album AC/DC Never Recorded!,
By
This review is from: One Vice at a Time (Audio CD)
To be fair, only five of the nine songs on ONE VICE AT A TIME are blatantly in the AC/DC style. But they are so good that it doesn't matter. Every song on OVAAT is great (if you like straight-ahead no-frills Hard Rock). Krokus covered "American Woman" on this album 17 years before Lenny Kravitz recorded his version, and the Krokus' version is better. "Long Stick Goes Boom," "Playin' The Outlaw," "To The Top," and "Save Me" are all as good or better than most of AC/DC's material, so the stylistic borrowing can be forgiven (and forgotten - by the next album Krokus had adopted an AC/DC meets Judas Priest style). The band was both criticized for the lack of originality, and praised for the quality of the music when this album came out, and both observations are valid. Krokus' other albums may have been hit or miss when it came to quality, but this one is a CLASSIC! -(If you like ONE VICE... try Def Leppard's HIGH AND DRY and AC/DC's FLICK OF THE SWITCH)

THIS ROCKS HARD !!!,
By
This review is from: One Vice at a Time (Audio CD)
Yes it does sound like AC/DC a lot, but I don't care. It's still heavy and it rocks hard! I've always liked this band, and they've put out some really good stuff over the years, such as "Metal Rendezvous" and "Headhunter". Overall, this is probably my favorite LP from the band. "Long stick goes boom", "Playin the outlaw","Bad boys, rag dolls" are all heavy, catchy tracks. Forget the similarities, just enjoy this for what it is: kick a** rock and roll

Krokus is an example of a band that got lost in the
80's garbage hair metal bands that were on MTv but were much better. This album always reminded me of ACDC style rock and I've always loved it! Every song is a killer. Sounds like a greatest hits album. If you love great hard rock like ACDC, UFO, Lizzy, Motorhead etc.. you'll love it!

This album typified the rock of the Eighties. Great guitar work, provocative vocals, and terrific drums. Every track is worth listening to.

One Of AC/DC's Best,
By "scrotov" (UK) - See all my reviews
This review is from: One Vice at a Time (Audio CD)
Just underlining what has already been said. From the opening chord this is pure AC/DC, got to be one of AC/DC's top five albums, forget it is Krokus and file it under AC/DC. The CD has a great sound, better than Headhunter and much better than Hardware which are the CD's before and after this one, neither of which press the AC/DC button quite as much as this album. In short an AC/DC CD from around the late 1970's.

FIRST LET ME SAY I LOVE ACDC AND CANT GET ENOUGH. THATS WHY I LOVE KROKUS AND ESPECIALLY THIS CD. IT FILLS IN THE VOIDS. I DONT CARE THAT IT SOUNDS ACDC ISH. I LOVE THE FACT THAT IT DID. THIS IS THE BEST OF KROKUS ALONG WITH THE MOST RECENT " HOODOO " CD. WHICH AGAIN SOUNDS LIKE ACDC. NOONE LOVES ACDC LIKE I DO BUT IM NOT GOING TO KNOCK ANY OTHER BAND " RHINO BUCKET " " DIRTY LOOKS " OR ANYONE ELSE WHO TOOK NOTE OF THE POWER CORD ROCK OF THE GUYS FROM DOWN UNDER AND GAVE US MORE. THIS CD ROCKS IN THE EARLY ACDC TRADITION OF BONN SCOTT AND SO BE IT ! IF YOU WANT TO ROCK ONE VICE AT A TIME WILL FILL THE NEED.

Best Krokus album= Great AC/DC "Tribute" Album,
By Litigator (Salt Lake City, UT) - See all my reviews
This review is from: One Vice at a Time (Audio CD)
This is easily my favorite Krokus album, but let's be honest- One Vice at a Time sounds so much like Bon Scott-era AC/DC that you could actually believe you were listening to a forgotten AC/DC classic. I actually disagree with earlier reviewers who say One Vice at a Time sounds like Back in Black. In fact, it sounds uncannily like AC/DC's Powerage. This isn't a knock on One Vice at a Time. I'm just saying, if you like this album, you MUST buy AC/DC's Powerage and see where the inspiration came from.
