Editorial Reviews

From Booklist

PreS-K. A large, rustic typeface and bold colors on a bright white background make this "homespun" take on counting especially appropriate for its intended audience. Comic illustrations in ink and gouache show the members of a country family with all of their favorite conveyances. The counting comes into play as children consider the number of wheels on each contraption: "One wheel wobbles on Mama's old wheelbarrow," "Two wheels spin on Gramma's putt-putt motorcycle," and so on. Schaefer gets more creative as the number of wheels increases; there are seven wheels on "Cousin's classy go-mobile"--a wheelchair (four wheels) with two cabooses, one for a friend (two wheels) and one for the dog (one wheel). The fun culminates as the entire family heads to the circus to ride the Ferris wheel. Diane Foote
