5.0 out of 5 stars A Party CD With All Invited
The 80's were a time of big hair, cool songs, and loads of fun. The 90's were a time of depression and deep thought. The new century, thus far, has seemed to be heading a little bit back to the 80's mentality and who better to usher in the new millennium of rock music than Bon Jovi?

Arguably the greatest Rock band of all time, personally my 6th favorite band, Bon Jovi...

The 80's were a time of big hair, cool songs, and loads of fun. The 90's were a time of depression and deep thought. The new century, thus far, has seemed to be heading a little bit back to the 80's mentality and who better to usher in the new millennium of rock music than Bon Jovi?

Arguably the greatest Rock band of all time, personally my 6th favorite band, Bon Jovi released "One Wild Night' a compilation of the band's greatest hits performed live since 1985 in various different locations. One Wild Night, a cool song off their most recent album "Crush," serves as the title and I have to say that this is going right next to my set of party rock CD's next to ACDC Live, the KISS Alive set, and Poison's Power to the People. It is, without question, one of the better CD's of my collection which is not what I expected it to be.

It's a party CD. Plain and simple, it's not necessarily basic pop, it's not necessarily dance music, it's just a feel good, shake your bootie, bang your head good time. Though track 1 is "It's My Life," which I never really found too musically appealing live as I think the guitar should be used more prominently in the song as it does sound hard rock, not like it ended up sounding. The rest of the album is a giant rock and roll party. They take songs like Keep the Faith, which I never was a big fan of, and turn it into an incredible melody of blazing guitar and energetic chorus. Also, Rockin' in the Free World is something to keep your eyes open for.

Topping it all off is the one and only studio song on the album called One Wild Night 2001. Though the original One Wild Night came out in 2000 and was a hard ACDC meets Ricki Martin type dance song, this version drops the Ricki Martin aspect (which I applaud) and brings in more of the older Bon Jovi sound to create a "hair metal" sound that quite honestly makes me wonder how anyone could ever laugh at bands like Poison and Motley Crue, whom I've never turned my back upon and never will. All in all, Bon Jovi has gained my faith once again after a fairly unsavory review that I gave to Crush (though I think it's better than the boy band music out today by leaps and bounds). This is everything you'll ever need if you're a Bon Jovi fan, and all you'll need to become one.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Live Bon Jovi CD, December 31, 2002
This review is from: One Wild Night: Live 1985-2001 (Audio CD)
I am not a fan of live albums, but a huge fan of Bon Jovi. My husband wanted to get this for me, and I almost talked him out of it, because I have all the other albums with these songs on them. I am glad I let him get it for me anyway. This is a great live version CD. I usually hate these CDs.

I was not too keen on the song with Sir Bob Geldof. I mean, what's the point? I want to hear the band..not him on a Bon Jovi CD. Their version of Rockin' in the Free World is good.
I could listen to them sing anything. They are truly one of the greatest rock bands ever.

If you are looking for a good collection of "greatest hits" I would recommend Crossroads over this CD. If you are a fan, you need to have this live version in your CD collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars Living The Live Concert Forever, June 27, 2001

Bon Jovi live on a CD? Well of course! This band finally has given its fans an experience to enjoy the concert expectation without the hassle of lining up for tickets, finding some place to park and then struggling to get the best seat in the house. Music and energy even your best stereo system can learn to appreciate. Songs compiled in a fashionable manner, delivered in custom taste and presented with all best intentions. Myself, typically more a devotee for a band's studio recordings, this album proves the rare exception. For now, let's forget endless greatest hit compilations and take time to delve into the wild and rockin' music of the live concert. After hearing this diamond disc would anyone dare care to see any concert show again? No sense needing to go hear music that lasts for one night and ends only with a terrible hangover late into the next morning with some bruised left shoulder adding to the pain and discomfort. Instead, why not take your favorite gal (or guy) and make out by a cracklin' fire with champagne bubbling between your lips while imagining your favorite rock band has made a special effort to perform live at your abode especially for you? Perfect example of how both technology and musicians' awareness can perpetrate the live show straight to your home or portable CD player without making ya feel like you're just some other bumped head in a crowd.

Bon Jovi are still rockin. They deserve more respect. They have survived the ever changing trends in rock and they are the only band of their "genre" who came out smiling.

This collection of live recordings has "party album" written all over it. First and foremost, we get the live version of last Summer's megahit "It's my life" back to back with "Livin on a Prayer". We also get old favorites like "Keep the Faith", "Bad Medicine", "You Give Love a Bad Name", "Something For the Pain", and "Wanted Dead or Alive". There is a truly awesome version of "Someday I'll be Saturday Night". This may be one of the best live records I have ever heard. Neil Young's "Keep On Rockin In A Free World" gets a first class treatment. The cd closes with an amped up version of "One Wild Night". I thought the original version was good, but the 2001 version blows it away. There is not one bad moment on the whole album. I would have liked to have seen more songs done live, but I can't complain. It rocks.

After many, many years, and many, many performances, finally Bon Jovi has given the fans what they wanted. This live CD includes many of the band's biggest songs, as well as others that are not as well known. There are new songs, as well as old favorites and every one of the band's CDs is represented. From old favorties like "Livin' on a Prayer" and "Runaway" to "It's My Life" and "Just Older," "One Wild Night..." covers everything that represents Bon Jovi. The remix of the song "One Wild Night" is hot and a great way to finish off this wonderful collection. The sound quality is terrific, and for those who have attended Bon Jovi concerts in the past will remember the energy and excitement of being there with this live CD. Finally....

5.0 out of 5 stars My latest guilty pleasure., August 27, 2001

While I never would have previously given Bon Jovi a moment's consideration (let alone a place in my CD collection), something has shifted in the great vortex of my musical understanding: I love this album! Perhaps it's the live, incredibly energetic renditions of these songs, much of the best of Bon Jovi ("Living on a Prayer", "You Give Love a Bad Name", etc.) and a couple of interesting covers (Neil Young's "Rockin' in the Free World" and the Boomtown Rats' "I Don't Like Mondays" - featuring Bob Geldof on vocals). Or, maybe I'm just experiencing a mid-life crisis. Somehow, when I play this disc I feel like I can relate to the primal side of adolescent maleness, the one that is expressed through the shaking of a fist while screaming oneself hoarse. In language that speaks of love lost, gained, lost again, regained, and the union going on strike on top of everything else. Surely, Bon Jovi isn't the only band to explore this landscape, and they may not even be one of the best bands to have done it. But one listen to 'One Wild Night' will demonstrate to even the most snobbish of music fans what it means to have a good time while doing it. If you, like me, were raised by parents who thought the best way for a confused, angry teen to get out his frustrations was through a chain-gang style weekend of yard work in the glaring August sun - allow yourself a measure of better-late-than-never rebellion in the form of blasting this CD at top volume, and then telling the neighbors where to go when they complain.

Bon Jovi is one of my main influence, his Charisma and talent are truly beyond belief, you can feel it in this amazing CDs, for those of you who are just starting with Bon Jovi I would recommend to buy Slippery When Wet to get in the Mood, but for the Hardcore fans this one is a MUST HAVE! Excellent performance in ALL the songs, only the best of the best, nothing was added to fill the CD, nothing is unnecessary, Songs like Wanted Dead Or Alive really get you in the mood for a party, and if you're feeling bad hey check out: Keep The Faith :) Well, I could go on and on, but you really have to listen in order to believe, so don't think twice, just click on Add to Cart - you won't be sorry, I know I'm not.

5.0 out of 5 stars Live in Jersey? You Must Buy This, June 25, 2001

This review is from: One Wild Night: Live 1985-2001 (Audio CD)
Truth be told, there are a few songs ("Always," "Blaze of Glory," "Bed of Roses" and a few others) that are NOT featured on this album and should be. That said, these 15 tracks are brilliant and stand alone just fine. They cover a wide enough range so that the newly-initiated feels at home ("It's My Life," "Just Older," "One Wild Night") without abandoning the hard-core follower ("Livin on a Prayer," "Something for the Pain," "Runaway," a great rendition of "You Give Love a Bad Name," etc). 15 tracks of live, Jersey-style rock.... How can you possibly turn this one down? It makes for great listening over and over again and leaves you with the magical experience that can otherwise only be felt live in concert...and since the tour just concluded with a great show in Giants Stadium, NJ, you must check this one out.
