Grade 4-7-After learning about Hawk's birth and family, readers then follow his life from his first introduction to the skateboard at age eight until his retirement from the sport in 1999. Each chapter briefly discusses Hawk's school and family life before going on to talk about the competitions he was in during that time period. Unfortunately, the many colorful photographs and boxes titled "check it out" often have nothing to do with the text. The glossary gives a one-line description of 11 random skateboarding terms, and a short list of magazines, books, and Web sites is appended. The dry writing mixed with the limited topic makes this book of interest solely to skateboard enthusiasts, and even they might not find it worth the ride.

I chose to do this book review on a Tony Hawk biography, One Wild Ride for many reasons. One reason I chose this book is because skateboarding alone interests me. Another reason is because Tony Hawk is one of my role models and some day I hope to be as good as him. This book has helped me be like him because it tells the reader his techniques and what he went through to become as good as he is now. One more reason why I chose this book is because it wasn't all about Tony Hawk. It was also about some other of my favorite skaters. I enjoyed reading and reviewing this fabulous biography about Tony Hawk.
