This small book was written by the scientist's who developed the first atomic bomb. Their guilt was not just the bomb, but the way America reacted to its use. They felt that this was a dangerous weapon and needed to be controlled, they lost and we are worse off for it!

I was interested in the Commonwealth of Nations use of scientist to push its agenda back in the 1940's and 1950's. What I found was a group of scientist who gave cogent and succinct analysis on fission/fusion reactions, using excellent metaphors and similes. Most of the articles lacked the expected socialist twists. There was, at that time, a clear understanding of the proliferation of weapondry which MAD [Mutually Assured Destruction] has subdued. The fact is the genie is out of the bottle, and the world is ripe at some point for a rogue detonation. If you are inteested in reading the minds of the cheif world scientist, at that time, this book is a wonerful primer. Simly ignor the propaganda.
