The remix of One by One is what I consider an essential gay anthem. What I draw from the lyrics is a message of unity and acceptance. I know that she's singing about one man, but hearing her sing "We're gonna love one another", I think of how we need to support one another and quit being so divisive and marginalized.I think that fans of the album Believe owe it to themselves to also buy this single.

The Only 'One....',

I finally caved and made the purchase for this utterly fantastic set of mixes.....the various remixers have outdone themselves by breathing new life into what is already a fabulous song....Having just returned from La Cher's 'Living Proof-The Farewell Tour' at the Garden in New York, i'm literally ODing on this babes tunes.....I can't get enough and the variety of the mixes help to diversify my homemade mix cd's......The only thing separating me from Cher's Hott and very hard to believe mid-50's self was the rail in front of the stage.....I'm still reeling......This song's lyrics and danceable tune, though not sung at the show, will have me dancing in my living room for years to come.....If you love Cher.....and you boiz know who you are......you'll love this cd...I'm always skeptical about remixes but this one is Hott.....and keeps to the original feel.....adding some pump and grind.....You won't be disappointed.....She's turned back time.......

When I first heard this song over 5 years ago,I was shooked to find out it was Cher. Her vocals are so different, especially in the begining.I can't understand why this wasn't a bigger hit than "Believe."Also,I love Cher's new song,"THis is the song for the lonely." I think its going to be a huge hit,and Cher wrote the number also. There's no stopping her.

This is definately one of my top favorite Cher songs. Cher has always been known to sing songs about acceptance, love, unity and understanding. This song is no exception. The mixes are quite good. The version of ONE BY ONE with Melle Mel is very nice, a sultry R&B song it's turned into. The Junior Vasquez Club Vocal Mix is my favorite on the maxi, turns it into a great dance song. In fact, the original version of this song was not a hit but the song was a hit on the dance charts with it's remixes, which was almost a precursor to the direction she would take with her 1998 album BELIEVE which brought her back. The X Beat Mix is great too, and there's also an X Beat Dub and the Junior Vasquez Club Dub. As well, the b-side "I Wouldn't Treat A Dog (The Way You Treated Me)" is on here, which was not on the US version of the album ITS A MANS WORLD. Overall a great single full of great mixes for an awesome Cher song!

Cher always has great songs that are positive and affirming, ONE BY ONE is no exception. The song has the common message (that never gets tired for me) of love and acceptance, and coming together, making a difference. The original version was not a hit, but the mixes made this song a club smash, and I believe it premeditated the direction she took with BELIEVE in 1998, she had a taste of that success and went for it, good for her.The version with Melle Mel is well done, it has a slower groove and sounds a lot more R&B/urban. There's a Junior Vasquez Club mix and a dub, and an X Beat Mix and dub. The Junior mixes are great, I love his work and he did a great job turning this song into a dance anthem, no wonder it was a hit. The X Beat mixes are good too. I came across this single by chance, and I'm very happy I bought it, it's well worth the purchase for any Cher fan.

"one by one" cher's first foray into the world of swirling lights and disco beats in a number of years took dancefloors by storm the year of its release and set the stage (and, perhaps, provided the inspiration) for cher's 1998 _believe_. the ablum version of "one by one" featuring melle mel is a sort of sade meets hip-hop groove while "i wouldn't treat a dog (the way you treated me) is sort of chers former incarnation as a rocker meets celine dione meets bonnie raitt. the four "one by one" remixes offer very little variation, unfortunately, and could easily have been collapsed into two remixes. the song, itself, though lyrically confusing, is undeniably catchy. between her resurgance as a dance diva, her book and her recent family revalations, cher is going strong and promises to accomplish great things over the next few years.

Loved this CD!! It was a real treat to find the first track on the disc, One By One, featuring Melle Mel! And the track I Wouldn't Treat A Dog is also very good however that's available on the Import Version of the original album :)
