4.0 out of 5 stars A good book for girls!
I am 12. I am really too old for this book, but it is good anyway. Good stories, wonderful Bible passages, questions, memory verses, and a key thought make this book great. While I am really too old for it, I happen to like it. Pick up this book today!

2.0 out of 5 stars Not getting the job done with my kids
I have been using this devotional with my three elementary age kids for about 6 months. They are currently 9 (girl) and 11 (twin boys). They are steadily losing interest in the word of God if it's framed by this book's approach. It seems like the stories are kind of contrived (nobody I know is like this except maybe the Flanders on The Simpsons) and they use really wierd...

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Choice for Your Preteen Girl, December 27, 2008
By
Growing In Grace "Karen" (Tennessee, United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The One Year Book of Devotions for Girls (Paperback)
One Year Devos for Girls has stories that could relate to most any girl, not a particular `type' or personality. These are not interest-led devotions, but they are devotions that emphasize character building principles from which all children could benefit.

After reading the negative review about inappropriate content, I double checked both the age recommendation on my book and the April 11 devotion. Recommended ages are 8-12 and while some parents may not feel it appropriate to discuss physical contact between boys and girls with their young girls, the material is handled sensitively and seems entirely appropriate for an 8-12 year old girl.

This is really the perfect devotion book for an older elementary pre-teen who needs to develop a personal daily time with God. Not too long and easy to understand while providing additional scripture recommendations for anyone who wants more to study. A great introduction to daily devotions.

I have been using this devotional with my three elementary age kids for about 6 months. They are currently 9 (girl) and 11 (twin boys). They are steadily losing interest in the word of God if it's framed by this book's approach. It seems like the stories are kind of contrived (nobody I know is like this except maybe the Flanders on The Simpsons) and they use really wierd analogies. My daughter wonders why the authors thought it was a great idea to compare Christians to pigeons, quilts and jello. She laughs about it but she really doesn't see their point. But the last straw was talking about how rock music was evil and then how a girl was convinced to stop listening to it because she went out with her Grandpa and saw a coyote that had been caught in a trap and escaped but was injured and was badly hurt. Did not comfort my animal loving little lady. Seems like a lot of good intentions went into this book, but then you know what they say about where most of those can lead you. We are moving on out to hopefully greener devotional pastures, I checked out a couple other ones like "The One Year Book of Did You Know Devotions for Kids", "The One Year Book of Fun & Active Devotions for Kids" and "If God Loves Me, Why Can't I Get My Locker Open". They seem like they will be a little have a bit more comfort and joy in them and encourage a bit more curiosity about God's word then this one did.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great mother-daughter devotional, October 10, 2009

This review is from: The One Year Book of Devotions for Girls (Paperback)
We are using this devotional as a family study. It is clearly written, theologically sound and chock full of stories that are applicable to children and tweens. Each devotion begins with a story and is followed with questions that can be used as journal entries or discussion questions. And because each story is only a page in length, it is very manageable as a personal devotion. It is just long enough to grab the reader's attention without being so long as to turn them off. And because it is written in simple language, younger students should be able to enjoy it without any frustrations.

A Kid's Review
This review is from: The One Year Book of Devotions for Girls (Paperback)
This is a great devotion book for me, although I am 12 years old. It is perfect because I am too young for teen devotions, but too old for many kid devotions. Great devotional for kids 12 and younger!

4.0 out of 5 stars A Daily Dose of God's Biblical Truths, February 23, 2009
This review is from: The One Year Book of Devotions for Girls (Paperback)
Help the young girls in your life to daily dig into God's word with the aid of The One Year Devos For Girls, by Tyndale House Publishers, Inc. Girls ages 8-12 will first read God's word and then a practical life story experience. The "How About You" section allows the reader to examine her life as she answers personal questions. A Bible verse to memorize and a bolded summary statement completes the day's lesson.

The devotional touches on a variety of subjects: worry, friendships, laziness, loving others, trials, heaven, appearance, witnessing and Bible memory, among others. Life quickly passes and important topics may fall to the wayside or be difficult to approach. Reading The One Year Devos For Girls with a daughter makes it easy to discuss crucial issues through realistic and relatable stories.

I do think some of the material may lean towards an older girl. If there is a deeper subject, the author prefaces it.

The most important part of this devotional is that it gives many opportunities for the reader to acknowledge sin and the need for a Savior--Jesus Christ-- in their life.

The One Year Devos For Girls is also great for parent's. It reminds adults of God's eternal truths and promises. The devotional encourages parents to look for teachable Biblical truths in daily life situations.

5.0 out of 5 stars A terrific devotional for Girls, January 5, 2009
This review is from: The One Year Book of Devotions for Girls (Paperback)
The One Year Devos For Girls is a terrific devotional for girls age 8-12 years old. Every day, your daughter will receive a verse to memorize, a suggestion for a short scripture passage to read, a short story to illustrate the message for that day, and a "How About You?" question to help her apply the message to her own life. This devotional is easy to read, laid out in a practical way, and has heart changing messages that will help your daughter apply the Word of God to her every day life. I recommend it highly.

5.0 out of 5 stars So far so good!, January 17, 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The One Year Book of Devotions for Girls (Paperback)
I ordered this devotional for my 8yr old niece as a christmas gift. I was looking for a daily devotional for her to read each morning before school and this works perfectly. The lessons are not too long but long enough to get the content across and each devotional is accompanied by a bible verse that correlates with the message. She is able to spend about 5 or 10mins in the word each morning which we feel is a great way to start each day!! I read several reviews about touchy topics but she has not come across anything that has made her uncomfortable or confused yet. But we also dont believe that you can start to early these days. Children come across so much so early nowadays that we would rather her read and discuss it with us and be equipped with the tools and knowledge to handle things or avoid things in a Christian manner then be approached with something and not be able to handle it!
