As a devotional, the book is inspiring. How can it not be? The old hymns my parents knew, and taught me to appreciate, hold an appeal unmatched by many of today's choruses. Reading the words of each hymn brings back warm memories of sing-a-longs in my parents church. To read the stories behind the hymns is a profoundly inspiring experience. For the one who is searching for a deeper relationship with God, the book is a wonderful devotional. For the music enthusiast, the book is a treasure of history.

This is a FAVORITE book of mine that I buy for others who are going through really hard times in their lives. It is easy to pick this book up and read it and see how God has worked through the lives of others walking through difficulties with the background stories on many wonderful old hymns. The hymns themselves are such words of encouragement and comfort. I'd recommend it for anyone regardless of where he/she happens to be in his/her spiritual walk with the Lord Jesus.

Love reading about the origins of old familiar hymns. Makes a nice, short devotional reading.

This book, is excellent for devotional times. It has many interesting facts about the hymns and their authors. Most of the hymns are well known and can be fun to sing after reading about them. If you have the slightest interest in hymns this is a great way to start fanning that interest into flame.

This is a gift for my god-daughter, she is a young missionary and Psalms is her favorite books of he Bible.

This book, they tell me, is out of print, but I continue to find used and new copies on Amazon and have bought about 2 dozen to give to family and friends. My wife and I read a hymn a day and are blessed in learning many of the hymns and hearing about the authors. I recomend the book, and will continue to buy it and give it to Christian friends who say that they will use it daily.
